Food Scene

Archie’s All Day on Gertrude St – my #1 in Melbourne. Always packed but they pump and you rarely have to wait longer than 15 mins to get a table. Get the Dirty Eggs – it’s been on the menu since they started and is their signature dish. Also, the raspberry dark choc smoothie is delicious. They also do the best filter coffee’s if you asking me

Smith St Alimentari – one of the best. You’ll notice it’s filled with locals reading the paper and that’s part of its charm. People buy groceries from here and it’s super North-side in its post-modern understated style ft. succulents.

Japanese or Thai at 127 Brunswick St. Ichi Ni Nana is amazing and Village People Hawker Hall is also one of my favs – they’re in the same venue and you do have to choose one restaurant or the other – or try one and then the other on another night. You can book ahead and there is also a rooftop bar (called ‘Upside) for a cocktail before! Get the cocktail called ‘A Rose By Any Other Name’.

Builder’s Arms – you have to go to this gastro pub. It’s incredible and is about to be changed to an Asian restaurant – controversial because they do my favourite dip in Melbourne their Cod Roe. Get it and thank me later. So the guy who owns it, Andrew McConnell, is the hot chef in Melbourne at the moment.

Challenging though not impossible to find in its Gertrude Street home (above Belle’s Hot Chicken), the entrance of this World Class drinking venue belies its interior refinements. A stunning long marble bar accommodates drinkers keen on engaging the bartenders, while the rest of the punters retreat to leather-bound booths. "Classic cocktails from the golden era" is a phrase that's been misused many times but it belongs at The Everleigh more than any other bar in the city. Daisies, fixes, fizzes, old fashioneds, sours and sazeracs form the basis of the pinnacle of the elusive golden era and are made here to standards likely beyond anything you’ve ever experienced.

Parks & Nature

One of the finest botanic gardens in the world, the Royal Botanical Gardens are one of Melbourne’s most glorious attractions. Sprawling beside the Yarra River, the beautifully designed gardens feature a global selection of plantings and specifically endemic Australian flora. Mini-ecosystems, such as a cacti and succulents area, herb garden and an indigenous rainforest, are set amid vast lawns. Take a book, picnic or Frisbee – but most importantly, take your time.

The most amazing jewellery store I've been into in Melbourne (and I've been into plenty). Just like a gallery - full of exquisite and artistic pieces for the woman who likes to make a statement. Fours years ago Lorenza Bini started selecting a very individual collection of works handcrafted by local and international jewellery makers. Whether you're wanting to buy a special piece or to simply spend a lazy Saturday looking at beautiful things... Bini is the place for you (and conveniently situated near iconic Gertrude Street).
