“This is another one my favorite brunch/lunch spot. Great lattes, amazing food. Pastries are out of this world. Think authentic pain au chocolat, almond croissants... not light in calories, but definitely worth it.”

“Peace is my favorite docent at this sweet little (free) museum. Stop in after you have filled up your water bottles below the museum and get a little dose of the history of the Town of Bath! If it was good enough for George Washington...”

“If coming from I-66 out of D.C. or from I-64 From Richmond, consider picking up Skyline Drive. All along the drive you pass through Shenandoah National Park and look West across the bucolic Shenandoah Valley all the way to the Allegheny range - Those mountains you see in the distance across the Valley is where you are headed to Rawley Springs. You would exit Skyline Drive near Elton (ignore the icon on the map that is farther North) and take rt. 33 West to Rawley Springs. It's a lot slower than taking rt. 81 (speed limit 35mph) so you should leave yourself plenty of time to stop at the pullouts and take in the views.”

“Lovely and historic, with great wine (widely considered Virginia’s best) and beautiful views, this vineyard is a bit of-the-beaten path but is well worth the trip in and of itself. The drive out there is along windy, pastoral roads lined with large historic farms and beautiful mountain views While out there, check out Grelan Farms and James Madison’s home, Montpelier. If you have time, drive along Route 231 from Somerset to the adorable little town of Gordonsville. You’ll see incredible historic farms and end up in a town whose classic Main Street is worth a stroll up and down. Hide”

The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's first invasion into the North and led Abraham Lincoln to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.”

“The Blackfriars Playhouse is open year-round for performances of Shakespeare’s plays and contemporary works in productions hailed by The Washington Post as “shamelessly entertaining.” I've been to several plays. Wine by the glass for purchase in the lobby. Get there early if in a group to sit together. The playhouse is small, cozy, and extremely fun.”

“Maryland's highest point is accessed by a trailhead and short, intense hike. Located about 30 minutes South of the resort area, resting on the boulders and taking in the scenery to the North is a sight to behold. You will be so high the hawks will be soaring beneath you - quite a sight! Small pull off area on the right of RT 219 and trailhead on your left. Hike is pretty steep in areas but not terribly long. When you have conquered this mountaintop, signed the register found in the mailbox at the top, and safely descended, continue South on RT 219 for another 15 minutes and you will find yourself in the fun, small town of Thomas, WV. Grab grub at the Purple Fiddle on Main Street! ”
