“It's a great pub but does a limited but high quality food menu. Steak night on a Wednesday is truly excellent. Hans, the Dutch chef and co-owner, is passionate about his job and it shows. This is real value for money stuff. As mentioned above, this place is primarily a pub and Pip, the (other) co-owner is as passionate about her beer as Hans is about food. She always keeps a good range of high quality craft beers on hand-pump, tap, and in bottles. If your not sure what to drink, just ask; Pip knows (most of) the answers!”

“The Galley is a licensed cafe/bar/restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. They make great coffee and have a good selection of pizzas on their menu. Most Friday nights, The Galley will have live music in the back bar area beyond the courtyard, many of the entertainers are talented local bands.”

Grocery or Supermarket
“If you go back into Port Chalmers (or merely 'Port' as the locals refer to it) and head up over the hill along the main road (George Street) then towards the bottom of the hill on the left hand side is the 4Square supermarket, which has all your essential grocery items and other stuff you are likely to need during your stay. ”

“A popular cafe, with great coffee and delicious treats. They close at 3pm so be sure to get in before then.”

“He's got some nice stuff in there. Not cheap, but nice and some of it is rather quirky. The front bedroom mirror and the lam in the lounge at 7's come from here. It's a great place to browse and you'll be tempted because you're bound to see something you like!”

“Worth the scenic trip out the harbour! They roast their own premium coffee blend which is much loved by locals and visitors alike. A true destination cafe, with a vibrant sunny courtyard and delicious bagels, brunch, breakfast and baking with fresh local ingredients. Get just 10 minutes out of Dunedin and explore the old shipping town of Port Chalmers, with great scenic lookouts, walks, beaches, cafes, vintage shops, jewellery, books and crafts alongside historic buildings, hotels and the fantastic maritime museum. ”

“This is a lovely little local museum housed in an historic stone building right on Port Otago's doorstep, located opposite the library. Free to have a look, donations accepted.”
