“Often missed since it's not down by all the other tourist sites. Beautiful Gothic style cathedral (one of the largest in the world) with pieces of Americana embedded throughout (e.g. a piece of the moon from Apollo 11 embedded in the stained glass, Darth Vader as a gargoyle, and more!). Highly encourage taking a tour!”

“Sounds weird, but this is a beautiful cemetery with a diverse cultural history. Many people walk the grounds and enjoy the large oaks.”

“The only venue on this list that also happens to be a house of worship, Sixth & I maintains its identity as a multi-denominational synagogue while doubling as a community center and space for the arts. Standing on the eponymous corner in Northwest Washington DC since 1908, Sixth & I has served as a hub for spiritual life in the capital for over a century -- it was an African Methodist Episcopal church from 1945 until 2002 -- and continues to foster thoughtful discussions and cultural events through its programming. Matisyahu was the first contemporary artist to perform at the venue, and they have continued to book outstanding talent in their stunning historical space.”

“The best gospel choir in the city! 12:30pm Mass - worth a visit, just for the music! Highly reviewed.”

“This church is so beautiful. The outside does not do the building justice. This cathedral is worth a visit. The paintings and artwork are gorgeous. There are so many little rooms and pictures that you need about 20 minutes to walk all around the sanctuary. The church staff are quite nice. Anyone is happy to answer questions. Even if you don't attend a mass, it is worth peeking inside. You don't have to be Catholic to appreciate this sacred space.”

“In the very northeastern corner of Georgetown lies the beautiful Oak Hill Cemetery. It was built in 1848 under the direction of Georgetown’s favorite son William Wilson Corcoran. Open daily (except Saturdays), the 22 acre cemetery is one of the most peaceful yet slightly eerie spots in Georgetown. The bulk of its interments come from the well-to-do class of DC during the second half of the 19th century. There are generals, admirals, doctors and lawyers galore. But its also got more than a few Confederate spies and just about everyone involved in the Lincoln assassination minus Lincoln and Booth themselves. Even Confederate president Jefferson Davis was buried here until 1893. ”
