“If you feel like sipping a deliciously chilled martini in a really sexy, chill bar that feels like a cross between a Victorian green room and a manly smoking den, this is your spot.”

“Closest dive bar to my front door: I can get to Shaw's back door in 2 minutes. Bar food is decent (the Shaw burger requires 5 napkins, the Sun burger is a long-time NE fave). Monday night is Blues Night—one of the best-kept secrets in town. Live music almost every night, almost never a cover. Everyone at the bar is a regular who will be at the bar tomorrow night, too. Owner Mike Shaw used to give me huge contributions when I went begging for the local elementary school silent auctions, and I've loved him and his bar ever since. You want a dive bar? Head to Shaw's.”

“The awards and accolades just keep coming for this bar and restaurant duo. Best pizza, best speakeasy and let's not forget the James Beard award.”

“Home of the Greenie, a NE Mpls rite of passage (sticky, green, sweet/tart drink that kinda tastes like vodka-infused kool-aid). Long, narrow, dim dive bar that now features a new partnership with expert chef/restaurateur known as Burger Dive. Very tasty burgers, wings, etc--a serious cut above standard bar food.”

“More on the expensive side, but they have delicious tacos and drinks. They also have happy hour specials!”

“You want a classic, old-school NE Mpls dive bar experience? You're not gonna get more authentic than Jimmy's. Cash only. Beers and shots, mixed drinks at reasonable prices. Uh, also TV dinners. Yes, that's right. And some other random food. But, people aren't there for the food. Don't forget to bring cash or your cash card 'cause they don't do plastic.”

“One of my favorite "dive" bars in NE. Often have live music. Worth trying the "dago" sandwiches. Ask about them! Food is homemade ... huge beer selection.”

“Duh, Nordeast. Karoake, too. We ended up here quite a bit, because that is something you would do from this neighborhood. Startting at Psycho Suzi's or Gasthofs puts you on the way past The Palace on the way home, so a quick and practical cab fare gets you there to end the night. Just watch out, the last couple of times I was there fist fights broke out between two girls. Different girls on the separate times there, no one I knew I just witnessed it. That is an actual fact about my experiences there. Just sayin...”

“Consistently voted best and biggest patio in the Twin Cities. Also, the only patio that overlooks the Mississippi River. ”

“Pleasant place to grab a glass of wine and casual dinner. The Peacock opens onto Erte, a higher-end restaurant. Peacock has a full bar and fantastic key lime pie. Beautiful, Old World-style atmosphere.”

“Dive bar extraordinaire. Beware: my daughter claims you cannot go to the Knight Cap and not get drunk. Heavy pours, cheap, lively, more hipster-ish vibe, but still a great corner dive bar. Limited food available too (Heggie's!). I'd pick Knight Cap over Mayslacks across the street (but Mayslack's has a cooler space—old pressed tin ceiling, great wooden booths—and a much more extensive menu). Knight Cap is more of a townie bar.”

“Just opened - so still a little secret! They carry several dozen MN beers from various little and large microbreweries in the Metro area. $5 flat fee for a pint and their food is quite good too! Trivia Mafia is there on Thursdays and it is quite fun.”

“This is the worst strip club in town but they have $8 pitchers of PBR and not-terrible chicken wings. ”
