Madscenen i New Haven

Pizzeria

“Founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe - this local pizzeria is renowned for establishing the "New Haven-style thin-crust apizza" baked in coal-fired ovens topping 800 degrees. Expect long lines with both locals and tourists, but catch it at an off hour and enjoy a real treat.”

“New Haven is known for pizza and Modern is one of the contenders for best in the city (along with Pepe's and Bar). Modern usually has very long lines, but you can call ahead and pick up if you're ok to eat in.”

“Excellent tapas restaurant that has a very high-end feel, but is not terribly expensive. The restaurant has a very energetic feel to it. You feel like you're in New York when you walk in.”

“One of the most famous Pizzerias in the world. Part of the famous duo (along with Pepe's) on Wooster street. My personal favorite pizza on the planet. Expect long lines and slow service. Don't go if you in a rush, but if you want a piece of New Haven and pizza history definitely go. ”

“Rudy's was relocated and revamped after 75 years of being the best dive bar in town. The new location is cleaner, has better interior design, and an expanded menu, but the fact that it is no longer a dive bar is also a disappointment to many. I don't go here for the service, the food, or the cocktails. I come here for the decent-to-good beer selection, a baseball game on the TV (note, this is NOT a sports bar and the TVs are not invasive) and the company. So this bar may not be the bar for you, but I'm recommending it for those special bar flies out there that don't want anything too fancy and enjoy other bar flies. Don't go on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday nights when they have karaoke/DJs.”

“It's all about the view! Shell & Bones is New Haven's best place on the water. Expensive, but you can have a full meal of drinks + appetizers!”

“Sushi, but not the typical kind you would expect (got served insects here once, so be warned). I enjoy their end of the night "happy hour" deals.”

“The best bread in New Haven! This great cafe/bookstore has been in New Haven for decades. It is in the ground floor of the British Art Museum which makes for a nice combination of activities on a rainy day. The British Art Museum is free also!”
