Park
“The trail system here takes in an easy to challenging 3.3 miles. The 3/4 and 1- 1/2 mile loops can be covered in 2 hours. Moderate hiking includes sandy trails, stairs, and slopes. Info kiosk at trail head, benches at ancient maple. Beautiful octagon-shaped deck and sitting area overlooking Houdek Creek, built and donated by the Houdek Family. Note: there is a significant stand of poison ivy near the entrance. Take care to stay on the wide trail. ”

Island
“North and South Manitou Island are part of an island chain that extends north to the Straits of Mackinac. South Manitou is approximately 16 miles west of Leland. North Manitou Island lies to its north, approximately 12 miles from Leland. Rich in history, the Manitou Islands are a part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, with almost their entire area available for hiking, camping and exploration. The 15,000 acres of North Manitou Island are (with some exceptions) managed as a wilderness area, and the island is home to numerous species of hawks and eagles. Manitou Island Transit provides regular ferry service to both islands for campers and day trips to South Manitou.”
