“The Pierides Museum - Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation is the oldest private museum in Cyprus, and is housed in the ancestral Pierides family home - a colonial-style building built in 1815. It includes some of the most representative items of the island’s civilisation. The objects on display date from 4000BC to the 15th century AD, and are an important testimony to a centuries-old civilisation that flourished in Cyprus. Prized items in the collection are the red polished ware from the Early Bronze Age, Roman glassware, and medieval ceramic dishes. A display case of Modern Greek and Cypriot sculptures can be seen in the courtyard.”

“This is a castle located on the southern coast of Cyprus. It was constructed to defend the southern coast of Cyprus and the harbour town of Larnaca and was later used as an artillery station, prison, and a museum. Larnaca has been inhabited since the 14th century B.C. when the Mycenaean-Achaeans Greeks founded a small town. Much later, the Byzantines constructed a small fort near its harbour. It is not clear when the Byzantine fort was first built but archeological research carried out around the castle suggest that initial construction started in late 12th century AD.”

Exhibitions are displayed across four interconnecting halls and often include sculptures and modern constructiions alongside paintings. The gallery's permanent collections of paintings consist of pieces by Cypriot and other artists, representative of contemporary artistic talent on the island.”

“It was the beautiful up-lighting at night which attracted Theo to paint Night At The Museum. The beauty of the wrought iron bars and the banister's shadows on the walls are complimented by the femme fatale, making her way to the entrance of the Pierides museum. One just wonders what the occasion might be. Figurative art with a Film Noir feel, meets Cypriot architecture. The Pierides Museum houses an archaeological collection of artefacts and other exhibits, covering over 9000 years of the island's rich history. It is a private collection which was started in 1839 by Demetrios Pierides, and has been systematically enriched by the Pierides family over five following generations. The Pierides Museum is located just around the corner from the flat. Head for the promenade. Before you get to the promenade turn right into Larnaca’s main shopping street, Zinonos Kitieos Street. The Pierides Museum is on the corner on your right. ”
