“History The Walworth area has seen street trading since the 16th century, when farmers rested their livestock on Walworth Common before continuing on to the city. During the Industrial Revolution, stalls lined the entire length of Walworth Road. East Street market has been officially running since 1880.”

Market
“I love buying fresh fruit and veg at the market, and this one is easy walking distance for me, and close enough to other shops (Tesco, Sainsbury's market, Rippon Cheese and a fab Italian grocery shop) to pick up anything else my cooking session requires. There's a great fruit and veg stall selling a huge variety of in season fruit and veg. And not just your bog standard stuff like iceberg lettuce. He's got lambs lettuce, rocket and spinach too! He'll tell you if the fruit is ready to eat or needs ripening so you don't waste your money. I managed to get a huuuuuge mango and i haven't seen any in my local supermarket. I did quite a geeky thing the other day and compared his prices to Tesco's and he came up slightly cheaper on all products! But there's not just fruit and veg at this market, oh no! There's not one but 2 fresh seafood stalls! And permanent businesses on the street include a butchers and bakers. There's also a few stalls doing takeaway food, including curry. Mmmm... an all round winner.”

Flea Market
“If like me you love all things vintage, you will love browsing around the many antique shops. Where you may find that special treasure you didn't really need. The market is set in the rooms of a quaint, old, rickety house full of glass and ceramics ornaments, collectables, jewellery, clothes, furniture and more. Happy hunting! Situated in trendy Crystal Palace where you can stop off for a coffee or bit to eat at the many eateries. Opening: Fri, Sat 10.30 am- 5 pm & Sun 11.00 am - 5 pm. Directions : Bus 322 or 10 mins walk Food Market - Haynes Lane: Sat 10-3 pm Offering a range of health, organic and specialist food produce. ”
