“The International Tennis Hall of Fame is set in The Newport Casino, a National Historic Landmark that first opened in 1880 as a social club for Newport’s summer elite. Designed by McKim, Mead & White, a premier architectural firm of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this was one of the firm’s earliest projects. In 1881, the first U.S. National Men’s Singles Championship was contested at the Casino, and Dick Sears garnered the first of seven consecutive titles before retiring undefeated in 1887. The International Tennis Hall of Fame shares the narrative of tennis history from its origins through present day.”

“In 1789 Job Watson purchased a piece of this rich farmland, and for the next two centuries five successive generations of the Watson family cultivated it. Explore this 265-acre property, which today is a working family farm. During open hours, take a self-guided walking tour, participate in an outdoor workshop, explore farm fields with grazing livestock, stroll along the shore, and view seasonal farm activities. Using innovative sustainable practices, the managers of Watson Farm continue the tradition of pastoral husbandry, grazing Heritage Red Devon cattle and sheep on the scenic seaside pastures. The farmers produce 100% grass-fed beef and lamb and wool blankets for local markets. ”

“The history of Jamestown is rich. Originally inhabited by the Narragansett, settled in 1638 by the English, the island was used for grazing sheep. In 1678, Conanicut Island was incorporated as the town of Jamestown. In 1728, the town built a windmill for grinding corn. On December 10, 1775, 200 British and Hessian troops landed at East Ferry on Conanicut Island and marched to West Ferry, where they burned the ferry house. As they returned to East Ferry, they destroyed many buildings, including fourteen homes; which caused more than 200 of Conanicut Island's 556 residents to flee to the mainland. A number of signers of the Declaration of Independence can be viewed on a document in Town Hall. ”
