“The gardens at Tullynally, like the castle itself, dates back over 350 years. The Pakenhams (later Earls of Longford) settled here in the 17th century and three generations still live here as their family home. The layout of the gardens and magnificent parkland date mainly from the early 1800s, but the present owners, Thomas and Valerie Pakenham have added many new features. Check out the website for availability of tours of the castle. It is still a private home but there are at times tours available of parts of the castle. The tour is very interesting. There are tearooms here and you can walk the gardens. ”

“Visit their web-page to find details of guided tours. The view at the top of the hill is spectacular. The Hill of Uisneach or Ushnagh is an ancient ceremonial site in the barony of Rathconrath in County Westmeath, Ireland. While it is not the exact geographical centre of Ireland, in Irish mythology it is often considered to be the symbolic center of the land, and is associated with the fire festival of Bealtaine”
