“In 1873 King Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired the Herreninsel as the location for his Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee (New Palace). Modelled on Versailles, this palace was built as a "Temple of Fame" for King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian monarch fervently admired. “Very relaxing little island to walk around and have lots of beautiful impressions - many flowers, craftmanship, potteries, good (fish)restaurants. TIPP: Take the boat from Felden or Prien and buy a round-trip ticket. ”

“Definitely the most impressive and most beautifully located palace in Upper Bavaria and one of the most rewarding day trips you can take from Munich. Commissioned by the same "mad" king that also had Neuschwanstein built, but so much more authentic and interesting; this is where us locals take visitors instead. The palace is located on an island in a big and beautiful lake close to the Alps, so even the one hour train ride to there is spectacular. From the regular train station Prien take the old-timey steam train to the pier in Stock village or just have a nice walk to there (30 min). An hourly ship service will take you from Stock to the island within 15 minutes. Totally recommended and you'll get a very authentic impression of both our arts-and-people-loving former royalty and the gorgeous landscape that makes Bavaria so famous.”

“Vom warmen Außenbecken hat man einen mega Blick auf den See und Schloß Herrenchiemsee. An der Kasse vom Hallenbad kann man sein Parkticket durchziehen lassen, dann kostet der parkplatz nichts.”
