  • "La Madriguera" is a forty year old house, sitting on two acres of parkland, outside the little village of Gardes le Pontaroux, close to the public pool and holiday village and on a regular bus route between Angouleme and Villebois-Lavalette.

  • The twin room, also on the ground floor, is furnished Spanish style. There is a Tassimo drinks machine, along with hair dryer, heating and air conditioning. Situated at the front of the house, it has a view of the garden and countryside.
  • A warm welcome, along with the scent of freshly brewed coffee await you in the kitchen/breakfast room. Breakfast is, of course provided. Evening meals upon request. Please leave catering to Maria!
  • The bathroom is exotically furnished in authentic Indonesian style and includes a luxurious bath/shower, complete with light and radio, whilst you bathe! Towels, shampoo, soaps, toothpaste and gels are provided.
  • Here is the laundry room at La Madriguera, with all the equipment that you need on holiday. If you don't fancy doing these chores, I can do them for you, at a small charge.
  • Take advantage of the pretty, sunny terrace, complete with barbecue, ornamental pond and garden. All barbecue equipment is supplied, on request.

  • There is ample parking at the front of the house, at the side and at the back. The entire property is surrounded by fencing and gates.
  • This beautiful pool with its cafe and amenities, including picnic areas, is just a five minute walk from the house. Directly opposite the pool, set back off the road, you will find Biotyflo Institut, for ladies who wish to be pampered on holiday!
  • Just a ten minute drive from La Madriguera is the chateau at Villebois-Lavalette. This little town has banks, post office, restaurants, bars, supermarket, shops, a little marketplace and the all-important Tourist Office.
  • La Madriguera is situated among the trees, to the left of this picture, in the peace and tranquility of the Charentais countryside, just 6 kilometres from the Dordogne border.

  • If you like cars, mid September is a good time to be here. Angouleme is cordonned off for the whole weekend, as we offer the "Circuit des Remparts", three days of Vintage and Classic cars, including a whole afternoon of races around the walled city.
  • We have a surprising number of equestrian events in the region throughout the Summer. If you need somewhere to stay, "La Madriguera" is your home from home!
  • "Village Sessions", organised by the Art Blakey Society. For one week in July, we have live music in different villages. These events are well attended and not to be missed!
  • Just a ten minute drive from the house is the beautiful chateau of La Mercerie. This is a breathtaking location and the history of the building is fascinating.
  • Over the border into Dordogne and just a 35 minute drive is Brantome, "The Venice of The Perigord". This has been listed as one of the most beautiful places to visit. Friday mornings feature the weekly market.
