If you are looking for absolutely stunning views and a unique setting enjoyed in complete privacy five to eight minutes drive from two quaint harbor towns, then this vacation getaway is for you. Perched high on a mountainside—with a super-steep 250 ft private drive—this 1500 sq ft. house is of Log/Post and Beam construction with a completely open floor plan, large wrap-around porch, lofts, cathedral ceiling, and with windows and skylights on all sides to let in the truly magnificent, commanding vistas. The house sleeps up to eight people in two open loft bedrooms and a cozy, visually private guestroom/library on two Queen sized beds, one Queen sofa bed and one Full-sized futon pullout sofa, all very comfortable. There is visual privacy or potential visual privacy for the sleeping arrangements but no auditory privacy to speak of except in the first floor powder room. For the right party that’s an amazing bonding experience but we want this to be a good fit for you! You know your own group best and the house tends to be self-selecting that way. The people that do end up coming after my “open floor plan speech” tend to adore the place’s uniqueness!! There is a whirlpool tub and a stand-up shower, plus a half bath with sunken vessel sink. A country kitchen including a classic cast iron/enameled cook stove, gas range, and slate countertops with silvan views from the sink. elegant and/ or “arty” décor throughout, with old family things, Stickley and Arts and Crafts style mixed with objects from all over the world. This house is intimate and romantic, while nature on all sides brings the outside in and lends it an incredibly expansive feel. Unforgettable place!

The peace and quiet and privacy here will amaze you, and there is virtually no traffic near us as we are situated at the turnaround of a small paved road high on the slope, and at the end of a long, steep private drive. A discretely used, only occasionally occupied second building on the property is tucked away out of sight, you won't even know that it is there. On the surrounding mountains to the Ocean, on all sides you will see nothing but forests and meadows dotted by a few fine houses in the distance with their cheerful lights at night.

Forests below you and blueberry fields above, you look down over the lush treetops or pick your own blueberries in season above the house. All neighbors are acres away and almost completely invisible. You will have to crick your neck to see the rooftop of one of them behind you from the wide porch, and then you will only see a part of a roof. You may see bald eagles and hawks soar below you!

Some trees to the North and northeast are getting big, we don’t have the heart to cut them, and thus in some places they cut down on the formerly 180 degree expansive views (which return each winter), but a short hike above the house will top them all, and the loft bedrooms also add new perspectives...while the great room and lofts still look out over miles of unspoiled nature!

You see dozens of the islands on the Ocean, with Cadillac Mountain in the distance on Mt. Desert Island in Acadia National Park 50 miles away as the crow flies. The sunrise—if you are up for it—will sparkle on the water and sunsets will turn it a deep pink. The sunset will turn the coastal mountains a range of colors from pale mauve to brilliant gold. The area provides infinite possibility for the Nature lover, sailor, historian, art aficionado, birdwatcher or stargazer. For those who long for the water there are daysails, bareboat charters (better be an experienced skipper), lighthouse trips, lobster fishing cruises and ecotours, lobster-bakes on islands, ferries, whale-watching, kayak and rafting trips, and three to six day nautical adventures on the classic tall ships and wooden schooners known locally and historically as Windjammers. For landlubbers there are hiking trails, starting right outside your door, all over Camden Hills State Park and beyond, as well as on breathtakingly beautiful trails known only to locals, which we will share with you when you come. If you are a bird lover, you will have an overwhelming chorus of birdsong right up at the house. The night sky is amazing. There is world-class cuisine and all manner of dining experiences, from waterfront fish-shacks to French to be had in the area, as well as the Farnsworth Art Museum, home of the Wyeth collection, and historic old harbors and quaint, busy waterfronts everywhere, filled with fishing vessels, luxury yachts from all over the world, and classic wooden sailboats.

The house is equipped with good wireless access and cable (you’re welcome to use our Netflix just sign in as guest); a word about air-conditioning: until very recently very few Maine vacation houses have added air conditioning as temperatures have historically hovered in the 70’s and around 80 degrees all summer long; but this year there’s been such an unprecedented hot spell that we have added a small and efficient window unit for days when it’s really necessary. For those days that are not there are not too bad there are plenty of fans in each room as well as a big ceiling fan; until now we’ve erred on the side of an open, airy, natural house that, again, let’s the outside in in so many delightful ways! And during the last ten years of summer vacation renting we’ve never needed air conditioning, more often guests required extra blankets or heat, until now....
equipment includes Adirondack chairs and a gas barbecue grill; wood stove use on a case by case basis based on guests’ past experience with them; there’s a highly efficient Rinnai propane heater for cold nights; well-behaved pets allowed upon approval.

Gæsteadgang
They will be as well accommodated as they would be in a vacation house of their own.

Please take care of wicker furniture as well thanks.

As much or as little as they like! We are always there for them, 24/7 day and night, by Cell, Text, in person, whatever they need. We have made friends over the years, in some cases without ever meeting them in person. Other guests did not feel the need to meet us, but insisted on meeting our two champion-line German Shepherd stud dogs and rescue Pommeranian, LOL
