Named after our wild German Shepherd, Tucker’s Sandbox is our dog friendly, fully updated 3 bedroom, 2 full bathroom house with bonus living room on the 1st floor. Great views from multiple decks and only a 5 minute walk to the beach! Our home has a fully appointed kitchen, and we provide all linens. This is Tucker’s second beach home (spoiled boy!) and it is as meticulously maintained as the first. Check out the reviews of our other rental "Tucker’s Sandbar" for an idea of what you’ll enjoy!

We created Tucker’s Sandbar and now Sandbox because we were disappointed in the options available when traveling with our dog. Either the homes were bare of furniture or dirty with dog hair. You will not find that here at Tucker’s Sandbox. We pride ourselves on attention to detail, and providing a great vacation home that has what you need and some extras too!

For pup, there are large elevated food bowls, dog towels, treats (of course!) and a large crate with crate pad. .

In the entry way room, you’ll find a futon which is the 4th "bed" and some fun bean bags as well as a large flat screen TV and lots of board games for rainy days. Sheets for the futon are in the dresser. There is a washer and dryer for guests to use as well. Beach towels are right by the door.

Up the stairs and on the main floor, to your left you will find 3 bedrooms containing a king, queen and full bed. All of the beds have new percale cotton sheets, new pillows and high quality quilts. There are extra Sherpa blankets as well as pillows in the closets. ALL linens are washed between guests. We have a travel crib that can be set up for you upon request.

The master bathroom is in the master bedroom and has a full bath (with tub) and great water pressure. There are two bath, and two washcloth towels in each bedroom.

The main hallway bathroom also contains a full bath with tub.

Our living room boasts a large flat screen TV with Roku (no cable tv), sectional couch and a couple of poofs for the kiddos. The WiFi is the fastest available.

The kitchen includes a table that easily seats six, table settings for 8 and a full array of cookware and utensils. There is a keurig, drip coffee maker, French press, crock pot, blender, toaster and large oven and microwave. There is plenty of glassware as well as plastic plates for outdoor use. There are also some basics like salt, pepper and seasoning to get you started.

Off the living room, there is a fully screened in deck with chairs and a table for your morning coffee! When you pass through the screen door, the deck wraps around to the east and opens up to an outdoor eating area with a teak table and chairs that seats six.

Up the exterior stairs from the screened deck is the sun deck where we have a couple of lounge chairs with comfy cushions for sun bathing. While we do not have a direct view of the ocean, the views are beautiful nonetheless! You can see the Wright brothers monument and the sunset and stars are beautiful from the top deck.

Far below that deck we have two hammock chair swings that hold folks up to 300lbs, and an outdoor shower, a 6-person hot tub, a propane gas grill and parking for 4 cars. The parking is ample enough for a boat in tow and we can provide the measurements. In the shed, we have 4 beach chairs that are adult size and a large cooler.

We are happy to answer any questions about the house and hope you have as many wonderful memories of your time at the beach as our family does!

Her skal du være

Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, USA

Kill Devil Hills is the oldest official town on the Outer Banks, and arguably, one of its most popular destinations. Located in the middle of the central Outer Banks and bordered by miles of attractions, activities, shops, and restaurants, (and not to mention miles of ocean,) Kill Devil Hills offers vacationers a world of things to do and see.

The origin of the ominous town name has been the subject of local legends and theories for well over two hundred years, from the first recorded town reference in 1809.

Some locals swear that the town was named after a rum that was so strong it would "Kill the Devil," while others subscribe to the basics of the rum background story, but say that it was stemmed from the actual brand name: "Kill Devil Rum." Others attest that lone lamp lights from travelers on the top of the hill would distract and disorient passing sailors, who would wind up shipwrecked along the treacherous inshore shoals, hence the area earning the moniker of "Kill Devil Hills." Regardless of the roots of the name, it certainly stuck and became the name of the 1873 Lifesaving Station that watched over the local beaches. Decades later, in 1953, Kill Devil Hills would eventually wind up the official town name as well during its official incorporation.

Vacationers who want to be in the center of the action should travel to Kill Devil Hills, the veritable center of the Outer Banks. This small town features a world of possibilities, ranging from quiet residential neighborhoods to hopping close-to-the-ocean beach restaurants and night spots. Known throughout the world as the birthplace of aviation, Kill Devil Hills is also known to seasoned Outer Banks vacationers as the place to go to have a great, and very busy time. For visitors who want to be in the heart of activity, Kill Devil Hills is certainly the place to be.

The Beach - The beach is still Kill Devil Hills #1 attraction. Like all central Outer Banks towns, Kill Devils Hills has its own set of local beach rules and regulations, including no dogs on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. In addition, glass and bonfires are not allowed on the beaches, and driving on the beach is only allowed during the off-season months of October through March. Bear in mind, however, that these rules are in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the miles of oceanfront, and there's plenty of fun to be had both on and off the sand. There's no major beach boardwalk in Kill Devil Hills, but a quick hop over the dunes, and visitors can be right on the beach road to refresh with a soda or an ice cream from one of the area's many beachside shops.
