This spacious renovated studio apartment, in a beautiful old Elmwood building, is fully furnished and equipped and artistically decorated. It retains much of its 1911 character and style. 1 block from College Ave, 2 blocks from Telegraph Ave.

Whether you are visiting Berkeley for business, study, research, teaching, or visiting friends or family, this spacious studio apartment close to the Berkeley campus is ideal for 1 or 2 people.


The space

There is a large bedroom/living space/work area with original hardwood floor. The bed is a queen-size chest bed with storage drawers underneath. There are also 2 end tables with storage space and original built-in drawers and a leaded-glass fronted cupboard by the side of the fireplace. (Note: it’s a purely decorative fireplace now, with white Carrera marble tiles). In addition, there is a large walk-in closet with built-in shelves and hanging space. The room has a desk by the bay window and a TV.

The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped and modernized, with black granite countertops, glass-block tile backsplash, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and rice cooker.

The bathroom features white Carrera marble in the shower, Italian tile on the walls, a granite art nouveau-style insert among the hexagonal tiles in the floor, and an ultra-modern glass washbowl.

The Neighborhood

The apartment is in the Elmwood residential district, close to stores, cafes, sandwich shops, coffee houses, bookstores, music stores, and student hangouts on Telegraph Avenue. A CVS pharmacy is 2 blocks away; Whole Foods is 5 blocks. For foodies, there are numerous specialty and ethnic restaurants & cafes in several directions.

Access

The Berkeley Campus is 5 short blocks to the north – a 10-minute walk. There are buses along College Avenue to downtown Berkeley and the Rockridge BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit system). The Claremont Hotel & Conference Center is just over a mile away – a 20 minute walk. There’s easy freeway access at Claremont Avenue, which enables you to drive to San Francisco, Oakland, Marin County & the Golden Gate Bridge, Napa Valley, and Lake Tahoe. Twenty minutes driving (outside rush hours!) will take you to San Francisco across the new Bay Bridge, or if you take BART, it’s about a 20 minute ride to SF from the Rockridge BART station.

Interaction

Our delightful and energetic managers Binyam and Bruk (originally from Ethiopia) know this property well. They live in another apartment in the building and Binyam did much of the renovation work. One of them will welcome you when you arrive and will be available during your stay by phone or e-mail to answer any questions (as I will). Otherwise, we respect your privacy - you will have the place to yourself and won’t be disturbed.

Pricing

• Our rates are all-inclusive. We pay the Berkeley business license tax, but it is not charged to you.
• The accommodation charge includes cleaning and stocking with essential supplies before you move in. There is no separate cleaning fee.

The fine print
•Minimum 14 day stay
•No smoking of any kind in the apartment or anywhere else in the building - the hallways, stairways, back landings, and the grounds! It's against the law: the City of Berkeley prohibits smoking anywhere in multi-unit buildings. We also prohibit vaping (e-cigarettes) because it creates many of the same issues as second-hand cigarette smoke.
•Please, no parties or loud noise – this is a quiet residential neighborhood.
• Sorry, no pets.
• For residential purposes only (home office OK).
