The house sits right on Pamlico sound. Private pier water access, million dollar views, stunning sunsets, hot tub, wrap around deck. Perfect soundfront location for a relaxed vacation - unwind and recharge! Windusrfing, kiteboarding, kayaking, sailing, fishing, birding, surfing abound - this is a watersportsman's, fisherman's and nature lover's dream! Set up and water launch right from the backyard - no need to pack your gear and drive every time you want to play on the water :) Can't beat that!

Free swimming pool, tennis court access for your entire group with our membership.

Save on kayak, SUP and bike rental fees by using our equipment. We have a ping-pong table, 3 sit-on-top kayaks (1 adult double, 1 single and one youth) 2 bikes, 2 stand up paddle boards.

A very serene and relaxed setting to unwind and recharge! Very quiet, family friendly.

Quaint fisherman village with sailboats and fresh catch for your family barbeque.

Our hot tub offers 180 degree views of the sound and is a great place to relax and enjoy the view of the water and a star lit skies. Our jets are on the mellow side, so if you are looking for a tub that has very strong tub jets, this one doesn’t.

House is normally rented for full weeks, Sunday to Sunday during high season (June-August.) No pets.

Check in is generally at 4:30 pm. However, during Covid-19, at least until 12/30/2020, additional cleaning time is required to disinfect cleaned surfaces with required check-in time at 5:30 pm. Check out at 10 am, the latest.

Guests with COVID 19 must disclose their diagnosis and check out 72 hours prior to regular Sunday check-out, I.e. 10 am on Thursday. No exceptions.

Please review rental agreement in detail prior to booking for house rules, restrictions and requirements.

We will pay for half of our guests' required travel insurance costs (generally $75-$100). Protect your trip cost for a small fee. Most of our guests are large families coming to the Island to reconnect and have fun. When life interferes (illness, legal responsibilities, weather etc.), this small investment goes a long way to provide some peace of mind.

Floor plans can be viewed in attached photos.

1st floor:
- king master suite

2nd floor:
- 1 king and 1 queen bedroom on the left side of the hallway, separated by Jack & Jill bathroom

- 1 queen and 1 bunk (2 bunks - 2 singles each, bedroom sleeps 4 - see pictures) bedroom on the right side of the hallway, separated by Jack & Jill bathroom.
3d floor: common areas, kitchen and half bathroom.

We do live in the house part of the year and have a small trailer and a small boat parked on the property.

We let the vegetation grow before the hurricane season to help retain the grounds during flood surges.

Thermostats are locked and adjusted remotely on guest’s request (72F is the lowest setting during summer months)

Two security cameras facing front and backyard on the third floor.

Renters are responsible for their own paper products, garbage bags etc. beyond what’s provided at the beginning of the stay. During pandemic, there have been shortages of toilet paper and some other products on the island, so make sure to bring some with you.

Please clean up and tidy up before you leave.

Sound vs. Ocean side...

Folks often ask me why I choose to be on the sound side instead of the ocean. It's a matter of personal preference, of course.

Sound side is more serene, relaxed and quiet and you don't feel like you are sharing your vacation with hundreds of other beach goers. Having said that if you want to mix and match you can always cross to the Ocean side - takes 5 min. We are on the west side of the sand bar in the middle of the ocean that is OBX. East side beaches are 0.7 miles east of us (all of the coastline on the east side is public beaches) and have the more traditional, wide sandy beaches. We have a grass backyard separated from the water by a bulkhead (with stairs and private pier for water access) that protects the property, as can be seen in the photos. We love the ability to be private and isolated at the property while still be able to swim and use water toys off the backyard but also easily walk, bike or drive to the public beaches east of us.

I am not an early riser, so even though I love sunrises on the ocean side I am not usually up that early to enjoy them, especially when on vacation. This makes the sunset displays off our deck one of the biggest highlights of this location.
If you have children in your party, depending on how old they are being on the Sound side can be a great advantage - no violent waves or rip currents to worry about. They can simply walk into the calm water and swim, play and enjoy. You also get the homey feel and a contained space where it is easier to watch the kids as it's just you and your family on the beach. Teenagers may want to do some kayaking, windsurfing, sailing or kiteboarding - all better suited for the sound side.
I also like the fact that you can walk to the local fishing village, watch the sailboats and the simple life that goes on there - just a different feel, more local, less touristy. It's a matter of preference.
If you or your kids/family are into kitesurfing/windsurfing/kayaking/sailing - Sound side is the place to be! Prevailing winds are side-on-shore SW and the water is relatively shallow making it a safer environment for the wind/water sport enthusiasts to enjoy their hobbies. For surfers on the other hand, Oceanside location is certainly the place to be.
All that said, some folks prefer Oceanside locations and there are certainly plenty of gorgeous spots to choose from! Those are usually quite a bit more expensive though.

About the neighborhood:
Avon is Rustic and full of energy. It is a kiteboarding and windsurfing mecca due to ideal wind and beach conditions.
Avon is an old Hatteras Island village that has become synonymous with recreational surf fishing, and the Avon pier is a hot spot for those in pursuit of big gamefish like Red Drum. Just north of Buxton, this once tiny village of watermen and their families has grown to be a highly coveted vacationing experience with pristine, natural beaches and beautiful rental cottages. But Avon still retains its tight knit community feel. Even though you can find fantastic seafood restaurants, a supermarket, and some of the conveniences of home, a rustic atmosphere still permeates Avon.

You may hear Avon referred to as Kinnakeet by some locals. It was the name local tribe of Algonkian Indians gave the area, and later adopted by settlers. But in 1883, the U.S. Postal Service redubbed the village Avon, like they did with most of the Hatteras Island communities.

On the sound side of Avon, on the western side of Highway 12, you may see kiteboarders performing amazing aerial stunts and windsurfers racing across the surface of the Pamlico Sound. Nearby Kite point and Canadian Hole were named after the popularity of this public access spots with kiteboarders and with our visitors from the north. In the early spring, many watersports lovers flock here from Canada, Massachusets, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and other points north, because it is still quite cold at home and these enthusiastic athletes can't wait to have a little fun on the water.

No handicap access.

I like to travel and prefer to stay at a place with a local flair as opposed to sterile hotel rooms which seem to be the same everywhere these days. I appreciate the work and responsibility that go into owning and maintaining a property, so I will be extra careful with your place and things. I know that your relationships with your neighbors are important and that hotel-like noise and carelessness are not appreciated. Thank you, Natalie
