This is a small, stone, family house that has been substantially renovated without losing much of its original character. Views from the veranda are stunning, and there are plenty of trails to explore. A 10-15 minute walk away is the small town of Vila Nova cafes and two small convenience stores (mini-markets); the large town of Miranda do Corvo is a few minutes by car, and historic Coimbra (once Portugal's capital city) can easily be reached by bus or car. Situated between Porto and Lisbon, the city (and region) of Coimbra is often overlooked, but deserves exploring in its own right. Coimbra was Portugal's first capital, and as such has strong links to the country's early Kings and Queens; the Quinta de Lagrimes where Dom Pedro met with his mistress, and the tomb of Rainha Santa Isabel to name but two. The university is one of Europe's oldest, and students still walk the streets in their black flowing robes, in a scene reminiscent of Harry Potter's Hogwarts; try to catch the Queima das Fitas in May. The region was key in Battles between the forces of the Duke of Wellington and Napolean, and in the Serra de Busaco there remains a tree to which Wellington tied his horse. Older history abounds with a defensive line of castles constructed in wars with the Peninsular's Moors inhabitants, and the small city of Tomar is linked to the Knights Templar. Oh, and not forgetting the Roman Ruins in Conimbriga... So do give Coimbra a second thought and stay a while.

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke
A later check-in than 21:00 may be possible with prior notice.

The road to my house is extremely narrow, and it is necessary to manoeuvre the your car around a tight bend in order to park. However, an experienced driver should have little difficulty, and there is space for 2 small cars or one medium sized car to be parked at the house. Off road parking is often available for larger vehicles at the beginning of the road, and there is always an option to park securely a 10 minute walk away.

Portuguese law makes it obligatory that I take a copy of your identification. I sincerely hope that this does not inconvenience you.

Beliggenhed

Miranda do Corvo, Coimbra, Portugal

My house is in a small village nestled into the side of a mountain. There are cafes, bars, a wonderful baker's that still uses wood fuelled ovens, and convenience stores within easy walking distance, and Miranda do Corvo has a weekly market every Wednesday morning, where you can buy anything from a handbag to a live chicken... Public transport is not abundant, but there is a Monday (FREE) mini-bus that goes into town, and taxis are not expensive. Although like much of central Portugal there has been a decline in population since 'farming' ceased to be a means of living, and the landscape has changed remarkably, the beauty and sense of freedom, alongside the warmth and friendliness of my 'neighbours' far and wide, will stay with you long after you leave.

Miranda do Corvo will host the Trail Running World Championship 2019 (8th June).
