Boligen
In 1998 we added 1000 square feet to the house creating an entire second floor master bedroom and bathroom addition. This additions features two large dormers, a south facing one that leads through patio doors to a 12x 8 sun deck and another north facing dormer which houses the 12x12 master bathroom.

This master bedroom space offers open air living and at the same time is quite cozy. There are ten true divided light windows opening you to all four directions. In warm months the air flows though so wonderfully it feels like a tree house. In the winter months, the low sunlight pours through the skylights and the sun filters through the established old growth trees to charm the room. In any season it is a great place to restore, stretch out, study.

For comfort there is a sitting area with a two small scale cushy chairs and a loveseat, a small desk with printer and an additional bureau with mirror. The south facing deck also had comfortable patio couch and chair with lots of full sun plants.

The bed is a very comfortable medium to firm king bed with a featherbed, and down comforter w/ duvet and coverlet, down pillows and quality linens.

There is a large oval tub w/jets for soaking, walk in tiled shower, double sinks, 6 foot mirror. The walk in california closets has twelve drawers and a hanging area, also a second full size stackable laundry.

There are 12 steps to get to second floor and along the way we created a built in loft above one of the first floor bedrooms. This is an extra room we use as a sleeping nook under the skylight, it has a full futon.

The first floor has a living room, dining room and kitchen, front porch and back deck and patio are common areas. Two bedrooms and a full bathroom also on the first floor.

If you are renting the master bedroom you are NOT renting the entire house which means another kind, responsible low footprint trustworthy person/ guests could be living either in one of the first floor bedrooms and sharing the common spaces.
Details will be specific to each rental, please inquire.

Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Madison is a great town especially if you are in walking/biking distance to the lakes and all the great neighborhoods. Located in the heart of the near west side, we are in one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Madison. Just 4 blocks to UW Hospital, 12 blocks to UW-Madison Campus, 18 blocks to downtown, 5-10 blocks form Regent/Monroe St, where you will find many locally owned and operated small businesses, great restaurants and coffee shops. Just three blocks walk from the house to one of Madison's oldest Italian restaurant treasures, Lombardino's. Madison gems like Picnic Point, lake Wingra, Vilas Park, the zoo, and the Arboretum are very pleasant walks (or runs) through safe and friendly residential neighborhoods.

Our DOOR COUNTY Profile Tim's parents purchased a modest lakefront vacation home on Door Bluff Road in 1969 when he was nine and the second oldest of six. His mother Inger had arrived in the US from Sweden ten years earlier and found this idyllic Swedish connection thriving on the northern door peninsula ! Tim's dad deepened the family roots when he acquired a small 36 ' sailboat so the whole crew could recreate on the summer waters of Lake Michigan. I was first invited to join Tim and his family eight years later on one of their vacations when I was 17 and we were newly sweet-hearted . Now 40 years later after thousands of all weather hikes on Hotz trail, hundreds of good beach days at Newport and countless cold water life changing swims, we have the honor of caring for a few special vacation homes in Northern Door including our own. No matter where we lived throughout our life, or how life was unfolding, neither of us have ever missed a summer vacation in the gentle woods of northern door. We honor and are protective of the delicate escarpment land, we respect the long time year round family residents who have kept the peninsula alive in the winter and we admire the hard working perennial business owners that make door county so naturally welcoming . We relish our days in northern door, enjoying the lingering springs, cooler restorative summer weather and inspiring magnificent fall colors. Being close to such a rare clean fresh body of water we consider a luxury. We feel blessed to have been supported by our families, friends and community throughout life's progression. Now to be able to recreate our own door county home haven experience to share with our loved one and an expanded community is a privilege. We live six months of the year in our sweet meadow home on Hill Road in Sister Bay. Our MadisonWI Profile We became the second owners of the Chamberlain house in 1991, caring for this now 100 year old house in the heart of Madison's historic district has been an experience of on going culture building for our family over the decades.... After being relatively light on our feet for nearly a decade after college, we returned to our home town married with two babies girls needing a nest. We knew we wanted to live near the grandparents and began our search! The Chamberlain house was listed for just one day in the newspaper and somehow I managed to persuade the owner over the phone to let me walk through. He had pulled the ad because he realized the house was not ready to show. It had become a rental property over the years with little to no maintenance, suffice it to say the house had lost its sparkle. I specifically remember my mother in law at the time saying after her tour, “I would not touch it with a ten foot pole.” From the street, the aging dark brown paint job, the falling off gutters and gapping whole under the front porch stood out like a sore thumb in this tidy historic residential neighborhood. I was drawn in by the rustic street appeal, sitting there weathered on this sweet little raise in the land, this 80 years old house charmed me and called out for care. Right off the bat, upon entering the screened porch, childhood memories of cloud watching for hours and day dreaming on the couch of my Gram's front porch in the UP were revived...... when we pushed open the solid oak front door we were met with waves of cat pee emanating from the gold shag carpet which shook me right out of my daydream. i imagined with ease that beneath the old soiled covering (which I immediately wanted to begin tearing out) was a protected hardwood floor. The smell was strong and begged to distract us from the rich patinated wood and leaded glass built-ins. The fact that there was no light shining through the windows didn’t help. I took the liberty of moving aside the sagging Mexican blanket covering the morning sun from streaming through the prominent east facing picture window. The sunshine lit the room up and as we walked through each room I was able to imagine it in its original splendor. The quality of the craftsmanship inspired me, some focused skilled crew built it back in 1915 for $4000.00. I began envisioning our family living under this roof.........twenty nine years later, several dozen home repair projects completed (including even before we moved in a complete rewiring of the entire electric system of the house) it became a home base to our three amazing daughters, a fervent partnership, four beloved border collies, many regal cats, ancient friendships, countless family gatherings, and thousands of shared delicious meals. Today we continue the tradition of deepening our home base and culture by welcoming in folks from all walks of life and from all parts of the world.

More than likely if you are renting my bedroom this means I am traveling. The master bedroom is the entire second floor and has its own living room, laundry and sun deck and also an attached loft if you happen to have a young on or guest visit.

If you run, we are eight blocks from Lake Mendota and Picnic Point and Whole Foods. Going West one mile you will find Sundance Theaters, and shopping. Madison is home to Willy Street Food Coop which is a drive of ten minutes but Regent Street Coop is just a five block walk.
