Swift Creek Cabin is on 8-acres of beautiful Alaskan wilderness in the heart of the Wrangell St Elias National Park. This cute cabin has great views and is three miles before the footbridge to McCarthy/Kennicott. There's two cabins on the property, one being my home. The cabin comfortably sleeps 3-4 guests. It's utility free with a separate shower house and well-maintained outhouse. Stay in cozy Swift Creek Cabin for a true Alaskan experience!

Boligen
Covid-safe: No back-to-back bookings in 2020! We offer guests a true Alaskan experience without electricity or indoor plumbing in our cabins – yet with incredible comfort and charm! Swift Creek has a non-electric propane heater and has a separate shower house and a well-maintained outhouse. Note: Labor Day weekend / Friday - Monday (3 nights) is required

Swift Creek is most comfortable for 1 - 3 guests. A fourth is welcome if using a twin air mattress (Aero Bed) is sufficient. It is a short walk to the cabin on slightly uneven terrain from where you park. There is a cart to help transfer luggage to the cabin but for those who prefer to move items a shorter distance, they can pull closer to the cabin to unload/load and then move back to the designated parking area.

Swift Creek Cabin includes: Beautiful view, kitchenette with two-burner stove, basic kitchen supplies (pots, pans, dishes, etc), solar charging station for your devices, filtered drinking water, non-potable water for dishes and showers, cozy bedding and towels, propane lights and heater, skylight, log shower house, well maintained outhouse, privacy, and loads of amazing memories!

The McCarthy – Kennicott area in the Wrangell St Elias National Park is an amazing place with incredible history. The valley is utility free so each landowner is responsible for their own power, water, fuel, etc. We offer guests a true Alaskan experience with no electricity or indoor plumbing in the cabin – yet with incredible comfort and charm! These off-the-grid cabins are how many Alaskans live, including local area residents.

Swift Creek Cabin is one of three accommodations offered by McCarthy Cabins, the three being Swift Creek, Bluff Cabin, and Meadow Cabin, each on a separate property. Experience cozy Alaskan cabin life – a fun addition to your adventure in the Last Frontier.

Gæsteadgang
All three McCarthy Cabins are located approximately three miles short of the end of the road where there is a paid day parking area for guests visiting McCarthy and Kennicott. From the parking area, it's a 1/2-mile walk into McCarthy and five miles to Kennicott. There is a shuttle that pick-up and drop-off in McCarthy and at the footbridge throughout the day. We highly recommend taking the shuttle round-trip to Kennicott from McCarthy vs walking – save your energy for exploring the amazing historic mill town and Root Glacier trail. Don't forget to stop at the McCarthy museum and other awesome local establishments. When your day is complete, come relax at your comfy Swift Creek Cabin.

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke
Common Questions:

What about water?
At all three McCarthy Cabins, ample drinking water as well as non-potable water for dishes and showering is supplied although in limited quantities. Water has to be hauled approximately 1/4-mile, so conserving as best you can — short showers and other conservation methods — is greatly appreciated! Feel free to bring some of your own to compliment what we have to offer.

Do the cabins have WiFi?
The cabins offer guests a great opportunity to unplug and are without WiFi, however, McCarthy and Kennicott have WiFi hotspots provided by Copper Valley Telephone (CVT). Also, if you have CVT or Verizon cell service, your data plan should work well in the area. CVT and Verizon are the only cell providers that work in McCarthy and Kennicott.

How is our food kept cold?
Bluff Cabin is the only cabin with a refrigerator — they are a luxury in McCarthy! Coolers with ice and cold packs are the best way to keep food cold during your visit. Bears live in the area so all coolers with food and/or beverages have to be kept inside your vehicle or cabin, not stored outside. Note: ice is not available in McCarthy, so bring plenty!

What happens to our trash?
Without utilities, the McCarthy - Kennicott area is without a landfill. Rubbish from the valley and all three McCarthy Cabins is generally hauled to the Glennallen landfill, a seven hour round-trip drive. It's always helpful and appreciated when guests offer to pack out their own.

Is there gas in McCarthy?
There are no gas stations in McCarthy at this time. In an emergency gas may be purchased, however, it's best to top off your tank in Chitina, before you head down the McCarthy Road.

Is there a store in the area?
There is a small general store in McCarthy offering basic items you may need.

Explore this historic area and enjoy a true Alaskan experience at one of our cozy McCarthy Cabins. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. We're happy to help and hope to see you soon!

I came to McCarthy, Alaska for the first time in 1993 and was completely mesmerized. Unlike the footbridge we have today, back then, a hand-pulled tram was how we crossed the Kennicott River. I accepted a job at the McCarthy Lodge and at the end of the summer, bought Swift Creek by making a small down payment with the tips I had saved. Over the next 12+ years, my time was shared between McCarthy in the summers and Homer in the winters. During that time, I co-founded McCarthy's Roadside Potatohead (aka The Potato) and Swift Creek Cabins were built. Although the Potato was first sold in 2004, it's still in the "family" and going strong! In 2010, I made the decision to work year-round in Homer where currently I'm on staff at Kachemak Heritage Land Trust and Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge. I'm thrilled to once again spend quality time in one of the most beautiful places on Earth — Wrangell St Elias. McCarthy Cabins is host to three cabins on three separate properties; Swift Creek, Bluff Cabin, and Meadow Cabin. The McCarthy Cabins summer team includes myself and my three furry family members; Mouse the Pug, BooBoo my little fur ball, and cabin bunny, Fluffball Marshmallow. We hope you will join us this summer – we look forward to meeting you!

We live in the second cabin on the Swift Creek property and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Although we are next door, we very much respects guest's privacy - you'll hardly notice we're there. :) If you need anything or would like visitor information, please feel free to ask!
