Following a complete refresh in March 2021, we are excited to be open to the public once more (subject to any current covid restrictions)!
Corniwillin is a compact, yet well-appointed, traditional glovemakers cottage. It's tucked away in a quiet, one-way residential street, yet situated in the heart of The Little White Town of Bideford, close to the historic Pannier Market. A perfect base to explore the beautiful local countryside and beaches - there is so much to see and do in North Devon!

Boligen
Corniwillin is Devon dialect for lapwing: find our own, locally-crafted version inside!

Nestled in a quiet, central street near the historic Pannier Market, this compact but well-equipped cottage sleeps a maximum of 6 - choose from a kingsize bed, kingsize trundle or a double sofabed. Note: a party of 6 adults may find it cosy and the stairs are reasonably steep at 52 degrees (please see photos), so those with mobility issues/recently replaced joints may struggle with the stairs.

What a start we had! Excellent occupancy rates despite being new to the market, a request to feature in a TV show (which sadly couldn't happen as we were fully booked during filming), lots of lovely reviews and several returning guests... it's been fantastic!
Now in our third year, our compact, quirky and cosy little house is in a quiet residential street right on the edge of Bideford town centre. With the Pannier Market and one Bideford's premier restaurants right on the doorstep, Corniwillin Cottage is perfectly placed to explore the town and the wider beauty of North Devon, and it's famous beaches and stunning scenery.
The walled courtyard garden is completely secure for pets and children, the beds are comfy and the local food and drink are tasty and plentiful - we hope you enjoy our home from home!

Her skal du være

Devon, England, Storbritannien

North Devon (together with the rest of the West Country) is one of the gems of the UK, with patchwork lush green fields, dramatic cliffs, rolling hills, an abundance of beaches and coves and wildlife galore. Badgers, owls and even the elusive kingfisher can all be spotted here if you're lucky!

Bideford provides lots of choice when eating out - the wonderful Belluno on the corner of our street is the area's best Italian, or for traditional fish and chips on the Quay, why not try Mr Chips? Fancy a lazy supper at home in front of the TV? There are many takeaways of all kinds or, for award-winning pies and pasties, visit Blackwell's, opposite the end of Silver Street, in Meddon Street. We can highly recommend the steak & stilton pie! And no visit to Devon would ever be complete without a famous Devonshire cream tea - visit any one of hundreds of tearooms in the area to enjoy this traditional indulgence but... do you put the jam on first, or the clotted cream?!

For music lovers, it's worth checking out the Palladium on Lower Gunstone - well within staggering distance of the cottage! For nightlife, try Crabby Dicks Lounge Bar - a lively contemporary lounge bar set over 2 storeys with dance floor and bar located on the first floor and a bar, chill out area and outdoor undercover pool area downstairs.

The local area holds too many treasures to list - dozens of beaches and pretty villages can be found within 30 minutes drive - Appledore, Westward Ho!, Croyde, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Bude and more are nearby. Clovelly is the world-famous village in 100% private ownership - residents may only rent their homes from the estate. Clovelly is absolutely stunning - it clings to the cliffs and the steep, cobbled streets demand strong legs and lungs! Please wear appropriate footwear for a visit - stilettos will cause you some major problems! Walkers and cyclists will head to the Moors and the Tarka Trail, Dartington Crystal will provide classy souvenirs and gifts, families will love The Big Sheep, The Milky Way Adventure Park and Exmoor Zoo.

Trips to the beautiful, unspoilt Lundy Island are available from the Quay - choose to travel by ferry or by helicopter! Please remember it's a dog-free island, to protect the wildlife and the unique environment.

Visit Damien Hirst's Verity, standing tall on the pier at Ilfracombe. Steam back in time on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, or take a wildlife coastal cruise on the Ilfracombe Princess. Visit Victoria Park in Bideford to enjoy the scenery or even take in a local game of rugby! Wander around Chambercombe Manor, Hele Corn Mill or the beautiful Clovelly Village, which regularly wins "In Bloom" prizes and is rated amongst the top 10 prettiest fishing villages in the country. Visit the many National Trust and English Heritage sites, the fascinating Tunnel Beaches, handcarved in the 1820s, or trek on horseback across Exmoor or Dartmoor. Routes abound for the avid cyclist, or walk around the coast on the South West Coast Path - check online for gentler parts of the route or routes which incorporate a pub or three!

Appledore is within easy reach by car or bus - this delightful village was for centuries an important ship-building area. Located where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet, Appledore has streets of pretty, multi-coloured houses and an established book fair at the end of September each year. Visit the North Devon Maritime Museum, or take the ferry at high tide to Instow, on the opposite bank, to enjoy the amazing views from a different angle.

Croyde, the world-famous, upmarket surfers paradise, can also easily be reached by public transport or car in under an hour. Check out GoldCoastOceanfest in June each year - music, surfing, skating and beach sports merge in this unique festival. Don't forget to check out the Salt Rock factory outlet for great surf-inspired clothing!

Westward Ho! is just around the corner - the only place in Britain to have an exclamation mark in its' name. The name was inspired by the 1855 novel by Charles Kingsley, who was inspired to set his novel in Bideford. The popularity of the book led to a huge upturn in the fortunes of the local area, and Westward Ho! grew to be the leisure destination it is today. The seaward side of the village lies within the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the seas are perfect for surfing. Look out for the Hockings ice cream vans - in high season, there are usually 2 in Westward Ho! and one is a taster van! Buy a cone-to-go, or a huge tub to take home with you - the choice is yours, but don't miss out on a Hockings! If you know, you know..!

Between Corniwillin and Westward Ho! is Northam Burrows Country Park, where horses graze on wide open grasslands and the cobbled sea defences provide the perfect place to watch the stunning sunsets.

We hope this gives you just a taste of what is on offer, both in Bideford and within easy reach of Corniwillin Cottage. There is much, much more to see and do - the only limit is your imagination! We hope you come, have a wonderful stay and make your own memories in this beautiful part of our country!

I'm a farmer living in rural South Norfolk in the UK, surrounded by fields, farmland and wildlife. I share my home with a cat and 3 dogs, so life is hectic and usually involves a lot of cleaning lol I adore exploring other parts of this country and the rest of the world - travel enriches the soul and I aim to provide the perfect home from home for others to enjoy this beautiful country. I also love good food, walking, music and cosy, lazy evenings in front of the TV.

Access is via a keysafe - the combination will be given to you prior to your check-in date.
There is a folder in the cottage with emergency contact numbers, in case you experience any issues during your stay.
In the kitchen, I have installed a map wall to help you find your way around the South West. Unfortunately, the tourist information leaflet rack on the living room wall may remain bare during the Covid-19 pandemic (subject to change according to current guidelines), to avoid possible contamination - I do have an online guidebook on Airbnb, to give you plenty of ideas of things to do/places to visit during your stay.
