Our private Alaskan log guest houses are perfect for small families, couples or two couples traveling together! Electricity 24/7, WIFI, full kitchens, private bathroom, large deck with spacious views of the national park, gas grills and all of the pots and pans you need for cooking. The super comfy queen bed in the private bedroom will give you a relaxing sleep for the next day of adventure in our version of paradise. Look no further for your private lodging needs while in McCarthy, Alaska.

Boligen
The Lakina is a lovely, custom designed and built Alaskan log house. The house is fully contemporary with power 24/7, hot and cold running water, private bathroom with tub and shower, full kitchen with all the pots and pans and utensils all provided. Additionally, there is a gas grill supplied out on the spacious deck where you'll be able to enjoy the views while grilling. There is also a table and chairs set on the deck for outdoor dining, relaxing or enjoying a beverage while enjoying the views.
We are super convenient to get to and located right on the main road to McCarthy, Alaska. No need to schlep your luggage and groceries by walking or waiting for a pick up at the Kennicott River. You can drive right to your guest house door. Located only 2.5 miles from the end of the road you will enjoy our peace and quiet after a long day of adventuring in Kennecott, on the Root Glacier or rafting down the Kennicott River. We built our guest houses from scratch starting in 2003 and opened everything by the summer of 2006.
All of the guest houses are made of locally sourced spruce logs and rough-cut lumber where we could use it. Nice touches that remind you of the railroad days are the rail spike coat hooks located in the house and the towel hooks in the bathrooms.
We don't provide the following electric appliances because we are off the grid and provide all of our electricity with solar panels and a battery bank - Hair dryers, irons, tvs, electric coffee makers and microwave ovens.

Currant Ridge is a 6 guest house lodging business located at Mile 56.7 of the McCarthy Road. All of our guest houses have drive up access so there is no need to carry your bags over the bridge or take a shuttle van to your house. We are located 2.5 miles from the where the road ends at the Kennicott River. Everyone has to stop at the river since there is no public driving bridge over the Kennicott River to access McCarthy and Kennecott and walk in to McCarthy or pick up a shuttle that will take you to McCarthy and Kennecott. The cost of the shuttle is $10/person round trip to Kennecott.

I am a kindergarten teacher with 21 years of teaching experience and Andy has recently retired and is managing our businesses. During the summer, we run a seasonal lodging business, Currant Ridge in McCarthy, Alaska. Our sons, ages 25 and 21, are attending school in Harburg, Germany and Fairbanks, Alaska.
