Beliggenhed

Miranda do Corvo, Coimbra, Portugal

The cottage is in the village of Casais de Sao Clements, about 5-10 mins drive away from Miranda do Corvo.
There you will find a Tourist Information Office, Cinema (often showing English films with Portuguese sub-titles), Supermarkets, Petrol garage, churches, riding stables, markets, cafes, public swimming pools etc.
The Farmers Market is on Wednesday mornings, for local produce and there is a Boot-sale market on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month, there is a stall selling English food and the ex-pats use it as an excuse to meet up for a natter.
Biological Park & Museum: Petting farm and zoo of animals found in the wild in Portugal, such as Boar, Wolves, Lynx, Bears and Deer. also has a museum of human life with a display of old farming tools. The facility is run to give a home & work for local people with special needs, so they run the farm & make traditional crafts which are sold in their shop.
Public Swimming Pool: Next to the Biological Park there is park with a good outdoor swimming pool & café bar (mostly open during the summer months).
Beaches: The nearest sea-side town in Figueira da Foz, about 45mins drive. There is a wide beach, with many fresh fish restaurants & shops. The old town is at the northern end & there are some nice little café bars right on the beach.
River Beaches (Praia fluvial): Local swimming pools made by damming rivers, there are quite a few in the local area and up in the mountains. They often have café bars (these are not always open in the winter months)
Nearby: Bowling Alley & Go-Carting are both available about ½ an hour away on the industrial estate of a town called Villa Nova de Poires.
Culture & Heritage: The local town of Penela is very pretty with a castle on the hill above the town.
Conimbriga (10-15 mins drive) is a spectacular excavated Roman town with stunning mosaics a restaurant and a great museum.
Roman remains of a fabulous villa can be found at Rabacal, where there is also a little museum and the village produces a very good local cheese.
On the way to Figueira da foz at Castello Velho and in the town of Pombal there is a great Knights Templar castle called and there is an archaeological museum in Figueira da Foz.
In Coimbra you will find the main stations, museums, an ancient university & library, great parks, old churches & numerous shopping malls. In the old town you often see quirky traditions to do with the university students up to all sorts of shenanigans in full academic robes. In the back streets you will hear doleful fado music, traditionally played on a long necked 12 string guitar.

After one too many harsh winters in the mountains of northern England, we sold up and moved to Central Portugal. We love the relaxed pace of life here, the long summers, beautiful countryside and friendly locals. We love growing our own fruit and vegetables and indulging in the local fruity red wine. We enjoy escaping off on adventures to the local river-beaches, rambling around the castles, walking in the forests or going for drives up to the little stone-built villages in the mountains. We are sure any visitors to the area will feel just as much at home amid the friendly locals as we do. We certainly love it here and look forward to welcoming you.

Under dit ophold
Once we have booked you in and given you the keys, we will leave you to enjoy your holiday at Casa da Casimira. But we do live on the other side of the village, so we will be nearby if you have any questions or problems.
