Casa Ocean Breeze PR, one hour west from SJU airport, is a modern eco-friendly oceanview home in Arecibo, on the coast of the north shore. We host ONE group at a time so why stay in a cramped hotel room when you can s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t!

Our hillside home is on a quiet dead-end road just off main Hwy 2. All bedrooms have ocean views & are spaced apart - no shared walls! Great for couples*families w/ older kids*friends*work travel*stores*beaches*food nearby.

*Sorry, NO kids under 10 years old*

Casa Ocean Breeze can accommodate up to six (6) adults and is spaciously laid out across 2,000+ square feet on 1 main level which includes 3 extra large bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Note this is a 2 family home on 3 floors. Your rental includes the ENTIRE TOP FLOOR. The lower 2 floors are not guest accessible. You will enjoy spacious living, kitchen, dining and bed rooms. Outside, there is free street parking, a pretty front lawn with a covered patio & 3 more panoramic (2 are covered) oceanview balconies, great for socializing or spending quiet time alone. The home is furnished with modern decor, light & bright furniture with tropical accents.

*NO kids under 10 years old, no exceptions*

*Please indicate the correct no. of adults and children in your booking message to avoid disappointment and confusion*Once you are ready to book, you confirm/consent that you have read our listing in its entirety and agree to ALL house rules. Your booking message should include the following info:

We made an intentional decision to NOT provide air conditioning or smart TVs in the home. This helps keep monthly costs down and makes it possible to offer our guests more home and value at a lower nightly rate. If you and/or any member of your travel party feels that air conditioning is a necessity to have a more pleasant experience, this may not be the home for you. We much prefer that you choose another home where you will be completely comfortable. Please understand that we cannot provide air conditioning at this price point for a home of this size.

We provide ceiling and floor fans throughout the house and plenty of fresh ocean breezes to keep you cool. Be mindful that some days are breezier than others and everyone’s heat tolerance is different. Generally, from November thru March, temperatures are cooler than the rest of the year and evenings may even get on the chilly side.

***Covid-19 Update***
There are Covid testing requirements you should research before booking your flights. The island's beaches are now fully open with social distancing measures in place. Restaurants, museums and other businesses are at 75% capacity. There is no curfew in effect at this time. Many attractions/tours may still be closed or may have long lines/wait-times. Island-wide, you will be expected to wear face masks in public. Many businesses take your temperature as as an added entry requirement. Please fully research travel advisories online, check social media pages or call individual businesses/tour operators before booking your trip to manage your expectations. We want you to book with confidence.

***It is wise to pack plenty of masks!***

Casa Ocean Breeze is situated right behind Highway 2 in between Plaza Del Norte in Hatillo and Plaza Del Atlantico in Arecibo; both are major shopping malls along the north shore on Highway 2's busiest commercial area. You have quick and direct access to major roadways (no sketchy side streets to maneuver). Within 10 minutes drive or less, you’ll find a Denny’s, Krispy Kreme, Burlington Coat Factory, Sam’s Club, Super Walmart, 2 movie theaters (Caribbean Cinemas), Home Depot, Sears, JC Penney, TJ Maxx, Cold Stone, supermarkets, bars, lots of fast food chains and endless local restaurant options offering Puerto Rican fare. Our closest swimming beach, Playa Sardinera is just 10 mins away and always offers gentle waves and a truly local vibe.

Our check-in process is 100% contact-less as we have always utilized a lock box for access. We offer a flexible check-in time. If you plan to check-in before 10am, you must book the day before so that the home will be 100% ready for your early arrival. We will continue to practice high standards of cleaning and sanitation, ensuring we follow CDC and Airbnb guidelines for best practices. In addition, we pay special attention to high touch areas and will provide some cleaning products to use during your stay for added peace of mind. We observe a minimum 72 hour gap between reservations.

Puerto Rico still experiences periodic power and water outages. In our area, we tend to lose electricity a couple times a month. Water outages are extremely rare. Most power outages last just a few minutes, but they happen without notice at any time of the day. Thankfully, we have on-site Honda generators and back up solar powered batteries should we lose power for extended periods. They are very quiet and operate with propane, which we keep on site in large supply. You do not need to worry about being stranded without power but we do want you to be aware that they happen without warning. In the event of a rare water outage, we have a 600 gallon water tank (cistern) on site for added peace of mind. Please note, that we will not provide refunds of any kind due to power and/or water outages during your stay. They are simply a part of island life that are beyond our control.

A beautiful set of glass and iron doors open to an oversized living room with a large comfortable sectional couch for you to curl up in after a long day of exploring! Or you can swing along with the steady ocean breezes from our comfy blue hanging hammock chair. From here, you might even spot an iguana or three catching some sun or munching on grass. At night, you might be really lucky to spot a coqui singing nearby.

You'll be prepared to make a delicious meal in the fully equipped kitchen loaded with glassware, utensils, pots/pans, and new appliances; gas stove/oven and above-the-range microwave, full sized fridge and small appliances like a toaster and blender. Grab some groceries at one of many nearby grocery stores (Econo, Super Walmart, Hatillo Kash N Karry) and your home cooked meal possibilities are endless. We also have a coffee/tea station with all the fixings. Under-cabinet lighting helps brighten the counters at night.

The living area leads directly to the dining/kitchen areas thru a beautiful archway where your party can comfortably dine on a home cooked meal. The focal point in this room is of course, a direct view to the ocean with close proximity to the kitchen. The ceiling fan is a welcome feature on warmer days. Talk about dinner with a view!

Each bedroom is equipped with the following:

- Name brand comfy mattresses with lightweight, breathable sheets, pillows and lightweight quilts
- Remote controlled ceiling fan/light
- Floor fan
- Table lamp w/ USB outlets
- Luggage rack
- Hangers in full size empty closet w/ full length mirrors
- Dedicated desk space with chair to rest your personal items or to get work done on your personal computer devices
- Master bedroom has an en-suite master bathroom w/ jacuzzi-style tub and on-demand hot water shower heater
- Guest bath is fully tiled w/ stand-up on-demand hot water shower heater
- Plenty of bath and beach towels

Starter Amenities/Laundry Facilities:
We provide hammocks, rocking chairs, and general outdoor seating/tables for lounging outside, as well as everyday household items including a hair dryer, iron/ironing board, shampoo/conditioner, toilet paper and bath soap. We provide a starter selection of perishable kitchen/bath items commensurate with the length of your stay like a full bag of local coffee and one full roll of Bounty paper towels. You are responsible for purchasing items beyond what is provided at the start of your stay. On the front patio, you will find beach chairs, an umbrella, cooler, snorkels and floaties for the beach. We provide a sand-washing station on the front lawn for beach gear and clothing lines for bathing suits & towels. There is a laundry area in the lower level with a washing machine. Note that the laundry area is only available to guests that book a minimum of ten (10) nights. The dryer is NOT available for any guest use due to the high cost of electricity. Live like a local and hang your clothes out to dry! It’s eco-friendly :)

On rainy days, you can lounge around, read a book on a hammock, settle into a rocking chair, play board games or cook a meal to enjoy with your travel party. Whatever your reason for visiting Puerto Rico, we're confident that our home will exceed your expectations. We knew it was the vacation home of our dreams the moment we stepped onto the balcony and gazed out to the Atlantic...

Her skal du være

Arecibo, Puerto Rico

The home is located in a safe, middle-class residential community of professionals at the end of a super quiet, dead end street which offers plenty of privacy. Within 5-15 minutes drive, you will find tons of stores, 2 movie theaters, grocery stores, pharmacies and all types of restaurants plus gas stations, banks, fast food restaurants, Walgreens, CVS, a Super Walmart, Sears and JC Penney, especially convenient if you forgot something from home. There are many delicious local restaurants, food trucks and street vendors selling fresh fruit, prepared snack foods, hammocks, souvenirs and other wares along Highway 2. Travel the northern coast along highway 681 to Islote's developing tourist area if you're willing to venture off the beaten path.

Arecibo and the North shore of the island has many attractions that make for great day trips. We’re right on the border of Hatillo, the only town on the island that has more cows than people -It’s true!

For a truly local experience you can take home with you, Vaca Negra, just 5 minutes drive away, offers a 2 hour Make-Your-Own Cheese tour! They can even mail the cheese to your home once it’s aged in their facilities after 2 months. We’ve taken the tour ourselves and we highly recommend it! The tour sells out in advance and the regular price is up to $95 per person if you book the tour thru Airbnb. Casa Ocean Breeze guests get a huge discount down to $80 for 2 people or just $40 each! Once you confirm your stay, please message me for the contact information to book your tour! (Subject to availability). Visit their website for more info and check out their reviews on Trip Advisor. Book your tour early.

One of our favorite things to do is beach hopping (Playa Sardinera, Crashboat and La Poza) are very easy to get to, just plug in the name of the beach/attraction and your favorite GPS app will take you there. We also enjoy driving along highway 681 in Islote and making pit stops at the local dive bars and street vendors. Must-see area attractions include the Arecibo Observatory, Cueva Del Indio, the Arecibo Lighthouse and and Cueva Ventana.

As far as restaurants, we frequently visit The Roadhouse, George's BBQ, Hashtag Cafe and El Truco de Guin. For drinks, you must try a Medalla or the passion fruit mojitos (mojito de parcha) at First Stop. Or try a pincho (a shish kebob) or piragua (shaved ice w/ your choice of flavoring) from a street vendor.

Currently, Josh and I live and work full-time for the family business; we’re a 5-star licensed electrical contractor based in Brooklyn, NYC. Josh spent a large part of his childhood in Puerto Rico (Bayamón) and has lots of family who now live in Hatillo and Arecibo. Nerissa was born in Guyana in South America (a former British colony), the only country other than Brazil, where the primary language is English (not Spanish). She grew up in Queens, NYC and is a city girl at heart. We met in college at Pace University in NYC, and have been married for almost 20 years (no kids but we have plenty of the 4-legged kind). In 2015, Josh’s then employer offered him the opportunity of a lifetime to work full time in Puerto Rico! Nerissa’s employer offered her a full-time work from home Recruiting gig so she was also able to continue working from PR. We spent most of 2015 living/working in Islote, Arecibo. In 2016, we started looking for and found our future retirement home, which we now lovingly call Casa Ocean Breeze. In September 2017, Hurricane Maria did a number on her but we were very blessed to quickly repair and/or replace what was damaged (sans FEMA). Now, every time we plan a new home project, we ask ourselves, "Is this Hurricane Maria proof"? ; - ) When we’re not working, Josh and I like to travel, especially to beach destinations. We enjoy spending time with family, friends and our fur children. We also love hiking, snorkeling, live concerts, reading and working around the house. We hope you'll join us!
