Camp in comfort in our fully-furnished wall tent! Located on a hilltop among oak, pine and birch this canvas unit provides all the comforts of a rustic cabin with the feel of a camping adventure. Rental includes access to a shared dock, hiking trails, wood-fired sauna, cedar shower and use of canoes, kayaks and SUPs. Part of a small eco-resort that has the feel of a wilderness getaway yet is less than 15 minutes from the restaurants and shops of downtown Kenora.

The ideal home base to venture out from and explore the surrounding land and lake! Named for the sunny yellow dandelions that provide bees and other pollinators with much-needed food in the spring, this lodge-pole-framed wall tent offers the opportunity to be surrounded by the beauty of nature while still providing protection from its less comfortable elements.

Like a cabin made from canvas, Dandelion is built on a raised platform from a mix of hand-stripped aspen lodge-poles, canvas and rough-sawn lumber. The interior is one large room with hardwood floors and comfortable, rustic furnishing including a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and single on top, a queen-size futon, kitchen table and kitchenette. Outside is a small, partly-covered porch as well as a private picnic area with a fire-pit. The front of the cabin features full-length bug netting which means the canvas flaps can be left-open if desired. Dandelion has solar lighting as well as a plug for charging phones and other small devices. It is a short walk to get to a shared dock, wood-fired sauna and cedar-shower.

The kitchenette includes a 2-burner propane camp stove on the porch, camp cooler, dishes and cookware including a French press coffee maker, dishpan and soap, drinking water and wash water. The fire-pit also comes with a sturdy grill for fireside cooking.

Filtered drinking water and wash water in 5 gallon camping jugs are included with the rental as Dandelion does not have running water. Hot showers are available in a separate cedar pay shower that is a short walk from the tent. The cost is $1 for 5 minutes and we can make change for you if needed.

Dandelion is one of thirteen rentals available at Wild Woods Hideaway, a rustic eco-resort tucked into the forest and along the shores of Mink Bay, near Kenora, Ontario. There are three additional lodge-pole wall tents located in the same hilltop meadow and the washroom is a shared building with sawdust composting toilets. Dandelion faces away from the other tents providing additional privacy if desired.

In addition to cabin-specific features, your rental includes access to several shared amenities including a dock to sit on, swim and watch the sun set from, use of canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle-boards (life-jackets included), hiking trails, playground, wood-fired sauna and a cedar pay-shower.

The head of Mink Bay has been designated a provincially significant wetland and many birds and other animals either make their homes along its shores or stop in during their seasonal migrations. Depending on the time of year you can expect to see a variety of songbirds, waterfowl including pelicans and loons, eagles, partridge, deer, rabbits, turtles and beavers. We have also seen river otters, mink, wolves, foxes, herons, owls and bears. There is also a great diversity of plant life growing along Mink Bay with an incredible array of wildflowers that change with the seasons.

Her skal du være

Kenora, Ontario, Canada

Dandelion is one of thirteen accommodations available to rent at Wild Woods Hideaway, a rustic eco-resort hidden along the rugged shores of Mink Bay, near Kenora, Ontario. Ideally located for those looking for a wilderness vacation experience combined with the convenience of being located just minutes from downtown Kenora, Wild Woods Hideaway exists to make camping available and enjoyable to everyone.

The resort is located on 15 acres of mixed forest that time has reclaimed from a history of logging and farming. It includes a long stretch of rocky shoreline along Mink Bay, a small lake connected to the Winnipeg River which includes a protected wetland at the eastern side. We are currently the only dock on the lake and provide canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for our guests to explore the lake. The fishing is especially good in spring and the bay is known as a Muskie hot spot.

In the summer the dock is a great place to swim from and the lake is quiet in terms of boat traffic as it is bordered by a train track on one side that limits access to the Winnipeg River through a tunnel beneath the tracks making it difficult for motor boats to enter.

Bordering the resort there is an additional 90 acres of environmentally protected forest with hiking trails. The forest is a mix of natural re-growth, human planting and garden plants gone wild. If you look closely in places you can see the remains of old stone fences built from the shale that lines the shore. The trails include several overlooks, a small waterfall as well as foot access to the neighborhood of Keewatin on the western edge of Kenora.

It is possible to walk from our cabins to some of the best restaurants in town or to pick up whatever you forgot to pack at the local grocery store. Additional shops, restaurants, beaches on Lake of the Woods and a Farmer’s Market are a 15 minute drive away in downtown Kenora. For avid hikers looking for additional trails, the Tunnel Island Trails and Vernon Nature Trails are located less than 10 minutes by car.

Vi er et par med en ung familie. Vi er rimeligt godt rejst, men har nu slået os ned for at opdrage vores børn i en lille husmannsplads i skoven på en lille sø nær Kenora Ontario, hvor vi skabte et lille rustikt økoresort.
