Boligen
A quiet oasis of calm and privacy, Lofty Hayes provides well equipped and unique accommodation for two people wishing for a private and independent base from which to visit River Cottage or explore the magnificent Devon/Dorset coast.

Popular for River Cottage (5 min drive), special celebrations and walking.

Discover this rural idyll, just a mile from the seaside town of Lyme Regis, famous for its beaches, footpaths and fossil-hunting. Tucked away down a private drive, Lofty Hayes boasts a tranquil yet convenient location, a stroll away from Uplyme Village Green (with shop, pub and tennis court) and 45 minute picturesque walk along River Lym to the seafront. With the East Devon Way on your doorstep, guests have immediate access to a vast array of footpaths and cycle trails - without the need for taking your car out!

Separate but adjacent to Coombehayes Barn, Lofty Hayes spans the entire top floor of a small, converted barn, with its own private entrance, parking area and outdoor terrace. If you want to holiday with friends, we have another studio on the ground floor - The Garden Studio (sleeps two).

Freshly decorated with a breezy, nautical theme, the accommodation comprises a galley kitchen, open plan lounge, separate double bedroom and shower room.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to be independent and cater for yourselves - integrated dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave oven, induction hob, slow cooker and pizza oven. You can choose to eat inside or out, at the breakfast bar by the kitchen, on the large, private sun deck or snuggle in the cosy two-seater sofa in front of the TV in the lounge area. Netflix on tap! The large double bedroom has a super comfortable, sumptuous king-size bed and reclining chair, with plenty of space to relax.

From the lounge, guests can step out through the patio doors onto their private balcony and enjoy fabulous views across the neighbouring countryside and towards Lyme Regis. Here, you can sit and breakfast 'al fresco' or in the evening, relax with a glass of wine, listening to the birds and enjoying this peaceful and special place. From the kitchen window, you benefit from views over our gorgeous courtyard garden and sounds of gentle running water from our fountain.

Lots of lovely walks from the door step:

The East Devon Way is just at the bottom of our driveway. It takes about 45 minutes to walk to Lyme Regis and the seafront along the pretty River Lym (much better than going along the road!). Turn right at the end of the drive and within minutes you reach Prescott Pinetum, a beautiful wooded walk with some ancient trees. This leads to Trinity Hill nature reserve with an array of pathways and cycle trails. Our favourite walk is at Ware (a 5 minute drive under the viaduct). From here you connect with the South West coast path where you can go right on the Undercliffes path to Seaton or left towards Lyme and down steps through the woods to reach Monmouth Beach and to walk along the Cobb, the wall surrounding 13th century harbour.

Within a 15 minute drive of Lofty Hayes, you can join the South West Coast Path at Charmouth and climb Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast. Alternatively, enjoy bird-watching in Seaton Wetlands with its 4km of level trails and boardwalk through beautiful marshland and reed beds along the River Axe.

As well as walking, there’s a vast array of other activities to keep you entertained during your stay - all within 15 minutes’ drive:

- Horseriding at Woodhouse Stables

- Paddle boarding - paddle board rental and lessons at Boylos on Marine Parade in Lyme

- Kayaking - hire kayaks at The Tackle Box on Marine Parade

- Nordic Walking with local expert Gillian Butcher

- Tennis by the village hall in Uplyme – just a few minutes walk away

- Fossil hunting – on Back beach or Monmouth Beach - do it yourself or hire a guide.

- Rib Rides – cruise along the Jurassic World Heritage Coast to Beer Head and back

- Deep sea fishing - fish for mackerel with Harry May Boat Trips

- Shooting at The Tunnel, the UK’a premier shooting centre

- Seaton Tramway - three miles of beautiful countryside along the Axe Valley.

- Crazy Golf - Langmoor Gardens, Lyme Regis

- Birdwatching at Seaton Wetlands - nearly 4km of level trails and boardwalk through beautiful marshland and reed beds alongside the river Axe

When It comes to eating, we are spoilt for choice with a splendid array of restaurants. We are just a few minutes away from River Cottage, HQ of celebrity chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Swim, The Lyme Bay or newly refurbished Pilot Boat are just a few eateries to be recommended along the seafront. Relax with a cream tea in the beautiful garden at the Alexandra Hotel or enjoy a traditional pub meal at The Talbot Arms just down the road in Uplyme.

Gæsteadgang
There is private parking for our guests and access through a large, wooden gate opening onto a walled garden. Lofty Hayes neighbours our family home, but is separate to it, connected by a covered walkway which forms part of a picturesque walled garden.

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke
We have two apartments on site, each providing unique and well-appointed, self-catering accommodation for two people. For those trying to choose between The Garden Studio (‘Idyllic Garden Studio’) and Lofty Hayes (‘Romantic rural hideaway’), here are the differences between the two:

- Lofty Hayes is twice the size of The Garden Studio, with separate bedroom but with sloping ceilings.

- Regarding kitchen facilities, both have a hob, fridge, microwave and slow cooker, but Lofty Hayes also has a dishwasher and freezer compartment (useful for longer stays).

- Whilst Lofty Hayes has a shower room, The Garden Studio has a bath and separate walk-in shower.

- Both properties have their own outdoor space and private access. Whilst The Garden Studio opens out onto our pretty courtyard garden, Lofty Hayes has triple aspect, far-reaching views, across the garden to the countryside beyond and towards the seaside town of Lyme Regis.

Lofty Hayes is fully equipped to cater for yourselves. Guests bring their own food although we leave some ingredients for a perfect, country breakfast - fresh eggs from our chickens, filter coffee, cereals, milk etc

We price part of the cleaning costs separately so guests who stay longer can benefit from a reduced fee per night.

Lofty Hayes has sloping ceilings, with apex measuring 6'4".

Beliggenhed

Uplyme, England, Storbritannien

Lofty Hayes is situated just a mile from the sea, on the Dorset/Devon border, in the picturesque village of Uplyme, just above Lyme Regis. We are on a private lane adjacent to the East Devon Way and guests have easy access to a plethora of beautiful walks and cycle trails from their front door. It's just a 5 minute stroll across the field to Uplyme's village green, tennis court, friendly village pub and post office. Our guests love to take the scenic footpath into Lyme Regis, away from traffic, along the River Lym (40-50 minutes). We are 40 minutes drive from the City of Exeter (Devon) and larger towns of Dorchester (Dorset) and Taunton (Somerset).

Lofty Hayes boasts a tranquil yet convenient location. Guests can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis, but then retreat to this rural hideaway just a few minutes down the road. Away from the crowds, you can relax in the privacy of your own space - inside and out - with the gentle sound of the running fountain. Alternatively, enjoy a potter in our surrounding countryside, home to deer, foxes, pheasants and rabbits as well as an abundance of bird life.

If gastronomy is your passion, of course this area is home to celebrity chefs, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (River Cottage) and Mark Hix (HIX Oyster and Fish House), as well as a host of other quality eateries. Guests will find Lofty Hayes an excellent base if attending an event or course at River Cottage - a few minutes drive up the road or a 50 minute woodland walk through Trinity Hill Nature Reserve.

Walkers, nature lovers, fossil hunters will all enjoy exploring the beaches and spectacular footpaths along the World Heritage Coastline. Twitchers will enjoy the bird hides at Seaton Wetlands or the popular bird-watching trips which give exclusive access to parts of the Axe Estuary via the Tramway.

This area also boasts a wealth of historical and literary links. Lyme was granted a royal charter by Edward I in 1284 and is famous for its fossils and paleontoligist, Mary Anning, as well as the Monmouth Rebellion and smuggling. This is also Thomas Hardy country and Lyme's Cobb harbour is featured in Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' and John Fowles' novel, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'.

If you want action and adventure, there are plenty of opportunities for mountain biking, horseriding, kayaking, paddle-boarding, deep-sea fishing etc.. You can even try shooting at The Tunnel (10 mins drive), training centre for Team GB.

Hi! I'm married to Mike and we have 5 (lovely and very responsible!) children aged from twenty-one to twelve. We live in a popular, little, seaside town on the south west coast of England. We are very involved in our local community - in the church and local schools. Every Friday, we are preoccupied getting our neighbouring holiday home ready for our next guests. It sleeps 12 and has an indoor pool, so is very popular with multi-generational family reunions (grandparents, parents and kids!). We also enjoy meeting the couples who rent our two apartments - The Garden Studio and Lofty Hayes, which overlook our pretty courtyard garden. Being hosts, we know how important it is to look after the accommodation we stay in and we are always looking for tips as to how we can improve our own rental properties! As a family, we love the sea and the mountains and all the activities that go with them - sailing, skiing, mountain biking etc.
