Boligen
Lots to do, but also a perfect place to do nothing here on the Back Beach in Teignmouth, my home town. Quiet out of season, and especially cosy with the wood-burner on winter nights. Great space to stay all year round, with books, games, TV, Wifi.
Beach-facing picture window with views up the River Teign to Dartmoor; Haytor Rock on the horizon. For walkers, the Templar Way passes just outside - an 18 mile hike to Haytor. For artists and photographers the light and coastal/rural scenery from the house is gorgeous. River activity to watch from the house includes: harbour seal; swans/sea birds, cargo ships, rowers and amazing sunsets. The house has a 'Trot' a mooring for a small boat which you can use for your own boat if you check with me on booking to confirm.
Perfect for visiting e.g. Exeter, Totnes, or Dartmoor for a walk and a pub lunch. Plenty to do - local shops; Arts Quarter; pubs, restaurants; Pavilions Community Arts centre.
The seawall and the front beach are great for storm watching, and surfers. You may also spot a fox on the cliff embankment, dolphins out at sea, and a bird of prey high above the cliff near the TEIGNMOUTH sign.
Two car parks 2-3 minutes walk from my place. I also provide Free designated parking, a 3-minute drive on the forecourt of a residential building (and a 5-minute walk back to my place). Please note availability of this space may change from August 2021. Contact me for information.
One of my favourite times of day: After the crowds have gone home (on a sunny summer's day) looking out of my window, at the River Teign, with the lights of Shaldon Bridge on calm waters, and Venus rising in the night sky.
Good for the heart.

Kitchen provisions: (amended since Covid) Tea, 'real' and instant coffee, milk.
And a Devon cream tea with scones from a local award winning bakery!

Gæsteadgang
You have access to the whole of the cosy downstairs space with your private entrance, facing the beach with picture window/sliding doors.
The private patio facing the beach is shared with the neighbours either side. There is a table and 2 chairs, in front of the doors, on the patio for your use.
Please respect this space as shared with neighbours either side.
During Covid-19 I ask that Airbnb guests do not invite more than 2 guests into the courtyard.
At the moment the small back courtyard is private and not for guest use.
It can be accessed to leave the property/unload/load if need be.
I am in the process of renovating this small courtyard for guest use.

Andre ting, der er værd at bemærke
My place can be tranquil, and is quiet for most of the year. The view is always beautiful, although ever changing with the tides, weather and river activity. Some guests stay out of season - to enjoy the views and space in quiet times. Others make a point of booking when it's busy. So - depending on the time of year it can be vibrant or tranquil.
The area is often bustling in the summer months, and Bank Holidays; especially over sunny weekends, where locals and visitors gather at the beach, enjoying food and a beverages, paddle boarding etc at the sailing school, swimming, or enjoying the views and the sun go down. The back beach area is a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. There is a very popular seafood restaurant (The Crab Shack) 2 doors down, and the Ship Inn a favourite watering hole for locals and visitors alike is also a few doors away.
You will be staying in the heart of the back beach community where much of the summer fun takes place - and across the river - a ferry ride/stroll over the bridge away. Lively in the summer - especially so at the many community events throughout the year.

Covid 19:
Please do not invite more than 2 guests into the courtyard; during Covid-19 we are being especially careful. You may use the table and 2 chairs outside the door.
The events below have been cancelled for 2020. They are listed to show the normal annual events, so hopefully they will be on in 2021 - with slight date changes. Watch this space for updates.

Teignmouth Annual Ship Inn. Music Festivals May and August Bank Holidays; (The Ship also has live music for 2 hours on Sunday evenings 6.30-8-30, outside in the summer months and on Easter Bank Holiday)

DATES TO NOTE 2020 (Covid-19: cancelled 2020):
Teignmouth Folk Festival: 19-21 June;
Shaldon Classical Music Festival: Date in June;
Teignmouth Carnival week: Date in July-August.
Teignmouth Carnival procession & Fireworks: Date in August 6.30-10.30pm;

Teignmouth Harbour Festival: Saturday in September date;
Teignmouth 'Taste of the Teign & Harbour Festival' TBC September;
Teignmouth Sea Shanty Festival 26-27 September;
Teignmouth Jazz and Blues Festival Date TBC

A lot of these activities are on the estuary and some directly in front of the house so it gets lively, as well as during sunny week-ends. Brilliant, so book early if you like it - not so much if you want tranquility which you get here in the winter and out of season!

We also have other events throughout the year at several venues including:
- Pavilions Teignmouth - an Arts and Community Centre;
- TAAG Arts and Community Centre- events, activities and exhibitions;
- The Oyster Catcher Cafe with Community events including - quizzes, live music, tapas evenings; poetry.
- The Ice Factory Teignmouth - A great place to go for Studio Theatre

The back beach neighbourhood is unique. This is the River Teign beach area of Teignmouth, this small coastal town in Devon in the South West of England. There is a fishing community and a working quay close by and always something going. You will be in the heart of this friendly community.
Covid-19: Many of the events listed below have been cancelled for 2020, but hopefully will be running again in 2021.

Festivals and events in throughout the year e.g. summer: Carnival week; regatta week; Ship Inn music August Bank Holidays and selected other dates. Winter includes Jazz festival November.
At any time of the year the restaurants might be fully booked. During the winter months they may be open 3-4 days per week - if you want to eat in one of them book beforehand. Pubs serve pub food with no need to book e.g. the Ship Inn 2 doors down facing the river, with tables inside and outside; also the Crab Shack restaurant next door but one is popular, with tables inside and outside.

Exeter nearby (30-minute train ride); I recommend 'Cathedral Close,' the museum, Gandy street (shops and bars), the Quay area.
Dartmoor is 30 minutes in the car; I especially recommend Haytor (granite tor) and Widecombe-in-the-Moor (village with good pub food).

Hi, I'm Anne, Teignmouth born and bred. As a child, I loved both the front beach - for swimming, and the River 'back' beach for a more local feel. I also loved Dartmoor, a 30-minute drive, and its picnic spots, Tors, rivers, and villages. When older I enjoyed many ciders outside the Ship Inn, watching the sun go down. I moved from Teignmouth and most recently lived in Vancouver, Canada for 9 years where I pursued my career as a Sociologist and a health and ethics Scientist. I now have dual UK-Canadian citizenship and spend time both sides of the pond! I have seen many changes in Teignmouth; we have a new Arts Centre and a thriving arts community, and several very good restaurants. I love the tranquility in the winter/autumn months, the natural beauty and the community here, in particular, the working docks - and watching the cargo boats, from all over the world, glide past my window on a high tide; as well as the rowers and fishing boats come and go. Staying here, you will be at the heart of this community - which gets lively in the summer months. I have just returned from a 6-month trip; staying in AirBnb's across Canada - visiting every province from east to west coast. The experiences I enjoyed the most were staying in people's homes and learning about the area from a local - to me this is the best of what AirBnB offers. I try to offer the same. I am around to answer questions about the area. Point of interest: the film 'Mercy' based here in Teignmouth featuring the back beach - I remember the excitement of the town as Donald Crowhurst prepared for his race and we crowded down to wave him off - I was a little kid but still remember the excitement. The film is here in February at Pavilions Teignmouth. I love sharing this unique place, and my home, with travelers and visitors. Since I have been an Airbnb host I have enjoyed meeting people from both far afield and closer to home, and sharing my local knowledge, personal insights and love of Teignmouth and the nearby area. This is a pretty chill place to be - and I count myself very lucky to have been born here.
