Seeing diverse sites the Cathedral, National Theater, and the beautiful parks will help you get to know the country and its rich history and from this experience, you’ll have another sense – taste – to get more in tune with San Jose. For the end visit a special coffee store where you will find coffee and chocolates produced by women, in this special place learn to prepare coffee, enjoy a tamal, and make plantain empanadas...
Hands on artesanal chocolate, bean to bar
You'll learn the entire process from tree to bar, making chocolate from scratch: roasting, grinding, tempering then molding. With tasting all along the way. Starting with the trees I'll talk about cultivation and harvesting and the role of fermentation and drying in the flavours of the chocolate. Then we'll make chocolate. You'll be grinding beans in our cast iron hand mill and winnowing the old fashioned way, then I'll be sharing the secrets of tempering before the delicate practice of molding the bars. Puerto Viejo has a long long history of cacao production and I'll share that history with you, talking about the characters and stories of the area as we teach you how to make great chocolate. You'll be joining our happy, tiny team of 4. There will be lots to learn and taste, from flavour development to label design, this is a full experience! This experience is the most hands on in the area, you will get chocolate on you! Other things to note We are a short walk from Puerto Viejo along the beautiful black sand beach of Playa Negra. Our farm is a forest of fruit, native and nut trees and the coolness of lush jungle is refreshing.

Produciendo Café en el Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde
When our visitors arrive at the Sanctuary, the first thing we will do is make a small introduction about our family project, we are guardians of 48 hectares of forest since 1999. During the walk to the plantation, we will talk about the history of coffee in the world and Costa Rica, and then explain on the plantation what permaculture consists of and sustainable farming versus monocultures. Also, learning about specialty coffee and the different ways of processing and finish with a visit to the drying area. On the way back you will have a coffee tasting in three different roasts and methods and each participant will learn how to prepare their own coffee in the proper way. In the end you will learn: how to be a more informed and smart buyer, make the most of the product and value the work behind each cup of coffee. Other things to note We are the only specialty organic coffee plantation in Monteverde. During the year coffee goes through different stages, therefore, depending on the season you will see different processes.
Coffee Tour in harmony with nature
My family and I will explain our coffee farming experience so you'll have a better idea of what your lovely coffee means. Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from real farmers who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. Go birdwatching with a licensed guide
We'll start birdwatching at 6:00 AM, where we'll see about 30 different species of birds at an elevation of about 4,500 feet above sea level. Then we'll stop at a cafeteria, where we will have a chance to check some bird feeders as we enjoy a great cup of Costa Rican coffee. After that, we'll move up to Curicancha Reserve where we'll walk through two different life zones including different types of forests (secondary, transitional and primary) plus open areas where we'll be able to see much more variety of birds or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others. Typically we would see 60 to 70 different types of birds. Other things to note Bring binoculars, a bird book, hiking shoes, insect repellent, rain gear, and a hat.

We will start aboard the boat and move down or up the river depending on the tide. You will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the mangroves—extremely adaptive trees. Along the way you will get to plant a mangrove tree and contribute to the preservation of our planet. Out on the river we will find three different species of monkeys including the white-headed capuchins, endemic squirrel monkeys, and Howler monkeys. The area is well-known worldwide as one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. We will also look for three kinds of boas, crocodiles, caimans, and other reptiles such as green iguanas, the common basilisk—known as the Jesus lizard—and turtles. It is also possible to spot a great variety of water birds and land birds. Come and discover nature. Sunday Funday - Beach and Pool Crawl from Tamarindo
The Beach and Pool Crawl is rated #1 on trip advisor for things to do in Tamarindo. Everyone meets at El Be! Tamarindo beach club every Sunday for a pre-party between 12:00-1:00pm. Once you had a few beers and mingled with fellow crawlers you make your way on an old American school bus and we head on out to the coast. Tunes are blasting and you get to know your neighbors as you drive out of town to explore 3 amazing secret spots. There are pool parties with a DJ, beautiful beaches and amazing cocktails and food, with live entertainment, and you end the epic day watching the sunset with your new friends with a blazing beach bonfire in the background. The party doesn’t stop at sunset! The bus ride back is the best dance party and the highlight of the day. We have room for 52 crawlers each week and often sell out so please ensure to book ahead! Other things to note We do not accept cancelations. Tour is approximately 7hrs. Feel free to bring drinks to drink on the bus, but they cannot be consumed in the bars. Departing from the beach in Tamarindo at 1:30 pm you will enjoy a four and one half hour (4 1/2) hour sail along Costa Rica's spectacular coastline in one of the purpose built catamarans found within the Marlin del Rey Sailing Tours fleet - the 66 foot Marlin del Rey, the 65 foot New Marlin or the 65 foot Marlin Tres.  All are open and spacious which allows our passengers to comfortably enjoy the blue water views of the glorious Costa Rican coastline with its pristine beaches and verdant jungles from the bow trampolines, lounge on the roof deck, man the wheel with the captain or relax, one of the oversized tables found in the shaded area of the main salon and ultimately experience one of the brilliant Costa Rican sunsets. San Jose Tasting Street Food Evening Tour
Join this epic San Jose food tour of indulgent power eating, Costa Rican style! Kayak in bioluminescent waters
This kayak experience is not to be missed. What appears to be normal dark water, will light up WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. As the night grows dark, we'll step into our comfortable kayaks and get ready for a personal encounter with this remarkable phenomenon. We will lead you to the best spots, where sparkling algae accumulates. For a full hour, you will be enchanted by how every stroke of your paddle leaves behind a swirl of light, and fish light up their path like shooting stars in the water. The more YOU splash the water the more bioluminescent light you will experience. You are in command, the algae will NOT glow on its own, you have to ACTIVATE it with YOUR hands or the paddle. Come a bit early to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the bay and a nice cup of Costa Rican coffee, juice, and some snacks. You'll get a briefing, a suitable life jacket, before we go to the launch area for the kayaks. It will be like going on a cozy family tour, as the maximum group size is 10 people. We'll stop along the way, and explain more about the magical glowing water and marine life in the bay. When we return to the beach, fresh water and towels will be available, as well as bathroom facilities, if needed Other things to note The tour is fine for beginner-level kayakers. "October 31 Cocktail Halloween Show" Immerse yourself in the culture and history of the city. Explore San Jose by Night, complete with local markets, cultural icons, and a tasty dinner with wine! Starting with the Central Market, which, is the only way to learn about the city’s food. Stroll the market with your local guide and get to know the secrets, uses of the roots, herbs, and fruit common in local cuisines, including ingredients that will play a role in your authentic Costa Rican dinner later. The locals say that you can get anything you need at the Central Market, even love potions for attracting a boyfriend or girlfriend. After the market, we’ll make our way down Central Avenue, learning about the city’s history and anecdotes, as well as visiting one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in San Jose, the National Theatre. From there, our appreciation for San Jose’s historical architecture continues, walk through Morazán Park and we will visit Mr. Sloth Coffee Shop to make el "Morenito" one delicious coffee cocktail and try "Golden Rush" cocktail. We’ll continue to charm Barrio Amon, one the oldest neighborhoods we’ll be spending the rest of the evening at a favorite restaurant that specializes in wine and gourmet food. This cozy establishment offers the best in Costa Rican cuisine a unique space that offers art, culture, history as well as fine dining.
Learn to Surf with Local Professional!
We'll meet at Pico Bistro (the glass cafe next to the car park) in Tamarindo and head to the sand, where we'll talk about the tide, wave conditions and safety information, before kitting you out with the perfect size surf board (we have a wide range to suit all) and rash guard. You can safely store your belongings at Pico Bistro. Before getting in the water we'll take the boards to the sand (right in-front of the hotel) , where I'll demonstrate the correct technique for paddling, popping up on your board and you'll have a chance to practice until you feel ready to go! We'll jump into the water where I'll be by your side to help, instruct, guide and encourage you as you surf the waves; putting all you learnt on the beach into good practice! I will give you tips as we go, to help you perfect your paddling, positioning and balance on the board and, most importantly, we'll have fun and I aim to get you excited about surfing! For those more experienced surfers we can discuss your goals and help tailor teaching, techniques and tips to help you achieve these. Other things to note 1. Guests should be able to swim 2. Volcano, Waterfall and Atv
Después de la recogida desde su Airbnb u hotel de San José, el tour de un día empieza con el viaje en coche hacia la bella ciudad de la Fortuna que se ubica bajo las faldas de un impresionante volcán cónico. En esta bella ciudad los llevare a conocer una impresionante catarata de 70 metros de altura, ubicada en una reserva biológica con un area de 210 hectarias de bosque tropical humedo. Una vez frente de la catarata nos encontraremos un excelente mirador desde el cual podran capturar sus recuerdos mediante fotografias inéditas y únicas, tambien podran darse un baño refrescante en sus aguas cristalinas, para luego almorzar en este mismo lugar. La siguiente parada sera el punto de partida de un recorrido espectacular de 2 horas en ATV (cuadraciclo), disfrutaran manejar en un sendero secreto en la jungla que lleva al rio Arenal y la selva tropical, encontraran paisajes unicos y vistas impresionantes del volcán Arenal, los guias explicaran la historia, naturaleza y cultura de la zona, el recorrido continura hacia el asombroso y secreto lugar de los indigenas Maleku nativos de la region norte, esta es la oportunidad de conocer su cultura y la esencia de nuestros antepasados. Jungle Hike to Giant Waterfall
Just 5 minutes from the center of town you can move from the beach to the tropical rainforest. As easy as literally crossing the Street, doing this you will enter the Kekoldi indigenous territory. You’ll have secure parking from where the hike starts. 5 minots in, you’ll begin diving into the rainforest. First crossing an old cacao farm. Then you’ll pass three humble huts of indigenous families. One hour in you'll be in the depth of the forest. Some trees with more than 200 years of safeguarding these territories. This jungle has species of plants and shrubs with healing properties. A wide variety of palms such as chonta and suita that provide materials for the construction of the traditional Bribri house. About 2 hours in you’ll be approaching our great surprise. Descend to the KEKOLDI river. Follow the river, until we encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall. Here enjoy swimming and appreciating the tropical jungle at this secret and remote place. After enjoying and delighting in this breathtaking place it’s time to head back to the start. We will be walking in the jungle so you might get some mud on your shoes. And if it's raining we will still get mud so don't let a rainy day stop us. Total distance is 10km. For some people the hick could be a challenge.
