Every city has a 'dark' side, and one as old as Rome is no different. We have ghosts, gruesome executions, and murders, and they can be strangely fascinating. Come along for an after-dark stroll to explore some of these tales of Rome.
We begin in one of Rome's liveliest squares, now full of bars and restaurants. However, it was once a place of execution, and reminders of this still stand - hear the tale of Giordano Bruno, one of Italy's greatest minds who got on the wrong side of the Church.
Then we take a stroll through the backstreets, arriving at one of the oldest bridges, which is haunted by one of Rome's most infamous characters.
Strolling down a medieval street, we come to a unique church, decorated with skulls, and home to a mysterious order of monks with a rather macabre task. From here, we reach the site of one of the world's most notorious historical prisons, then pass the tomb of the notorious Borgia Pope, before arriving at the home of an infamous poisoner.
Soon, we reach Castel Sant'Angelo, where we talk about one of Rome's most famous executions, which the city's people didn't want - the Cenci family.
Altogether, it's a fascinating alternative look at Roman history.
Other things to note
It's an easy walk, only lasting 2 hours maximum. We end close to some nice bars and restaurants, so I can show you to them if you like at the end.

I have lived in Rome since 2011, working as a tour guide, and this city has came to be my home. Every street and every corner is filled with wonderful people, architecture, and history. Originally from the north of England, I studied a Masters in Ancient History at the University of Wales, before moving to Rome to put the knowledge to use. At times I've also lived in Florence and New York City (a little different to Rome, I know!), but Rome will always be my love, and I want to help others love it just as I do. I aim to entertain as well as teach you some of the history and secrets.

Great tour. I love that we learned so much about stories that you wouldn’t get on your typical history tours. They were different stories that were so exciting and interesting.

Benjamin was very welcoming and enthusiastic about the experience. I loved the stories that he told us and I was very impressed with his knowledge of history. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a different experience of Rome and for anyone who’s interested to learn more about how romans used to live.

This tour was amazing. I spent time in Rome doing my own thing before this, but if anyone is a history buff like me, he gives the best tour with background that you would not know touring yourself. The thing I was most impressed with was that he could answer almost any question you have about anything in Rome. This tour is more than worth it.

If we could, we would give Ben 6 stars. This was by far the best walking tour we've had recently. Ben was knowledgeable, succinct in his stories, and added humor along the way. We would walk for a bit, he would stop and make sure the whole group was present, then tell the story. We stopped at many places, so you never felt like you went on a "long walk." He also pointed out many architectural details and his favorite (and not favorite) places to eat along the way. We would happily go on any tour Ben gives on our next trip to Rome!

A good tour. We were a small group of 7 so it was easy to follow along and the stories were fun & Ben is a great guide! We highly recommend doing this tour and we will sign up for this again the next time we are in Rome.
