We will spend the morning exploring how to make kefir, kombucha and fermented vegetables (such as sauerkraut, kimchi and preserved lemons), and how to incorporate these ingredients into your daily life. We will discuss potential health benefits of fermenting. We will also cover how to prepare fermented products safely. We will look at using kefir in baking, such as soda bread and cheese making. There will be lots of opportunity to try the different ingredients and we will prepare a delicious lunch packed with these healthy foods. You will make and take home a jar of your own sauerkraut or kimchi, and you will also be able to take home some kefir grains and kombucha scoby if you wish to start using these cultures yourself. There will also be recipe cards available to take home.
Other things to note
If you prefer to wear an apron when cooking please bring one with you, otherwise I will provide all equipment. Please do let me know in advance if you have any food preferences or allergies.

I have many years experience of teaching in different contexts; I grew up with my mum using yoghurt and cake cultures and I have used various fermenting practices in my home for quite some time. I began by being introduced to kefir and have added kombucha and various salting and brining techniques to my repertoire. I am passionate about gut health and actively seek out foods that make me feel healthier and more comfortable.
I am passionate about food, particularly about making it healthier and at the same time tastier.

This workshop will be held in my Cottage in Honiton’s town centre. We will spend the first part of the morning being very hands on learning different techniques. We will then finish off with a tasty lunch.

As soon as I stepped into Anna's house I felt welcomed and at home. From start to finish it was an educational, fun and interesting experience. I went knowing nothing about fermentation and fermented foods and came away determined to make my own and utilise them in my family's life due to their health benefits... and the fact that they taste amazing!! Anna as a host is warm, personable, fun and a great teacher she showed me how to make Sauerkraut, Kefir Cheese, Salt preserved Citrus Fruit and my favourite Kombucha (a sweet fermented tea). Anna put on a delicious lunch using a lot of the dishes we had just made, plus some bread she had made. I came away with a lovely feeling and some goodies besides, I would recommend anyone spending time with Anna in her fermentation experience it was a fantastic day.
