Det skal I lave
What people usually know about Jews in Poland are topics connected with tragedy - ghettos, Holocaust, Auschwitz. What they forget about is the fact, that before WW2 Warsaw was home to the largest Jewish settlement in whole Europe. Therefore, as licensed Warsaw's tour guide I would like to invite you for a journey through six hundred year history of Jewish community in Warsaw which will help you to understand not only what happened, but also why it happened. When first Jews settled in Warsaw? Why Poland before the war was called "paradise for Jews"? How life in the ghetto looked like? Why so many people were against Jews? How many Jews live in Warsaw today? Majority of the Ghetto was destroyed, but it doesn't mean there are no buildings and spots that remember the past. Finding those, comparing current landscape with pictures from the past, decoding symbols placed on Holocaust memorials, exploring street art devoted to Warsaw's Jews... That's for the beginning. The rest is a surprise ;-)
My name is Przemyslaw (which in old polish dialect means "clever mind" ;-) ) and I always loved history. I also loved my history teacher who, when I was finishing high school told me: "Never study history. It will ruin your life". I listened to her, got a degree in psychology instead and work with children in counseling centre. But true love never ends - and my true love came back to me six years ago, when after post graduate studies about Warsaw's history I became a certified Warsaw guide. From that time I share my love with guests visiting Warsaw. Now it's time to share it with you :-)
