Do you want to visit the secret needle shop having more than 360years of history, the hard-to-find shop filled with handmade needles and cherished sewing supplies? Or, are you interested in visiting the craft shop specializing in wholesaling? What about looking for vintage kimono fabrics for your boro quilting project? Do you want to get lost in the fabric paradise? Maybe the dyeing supplies? Or beautiful silk threads store located in a traditional Kyoto Machiya? I know exactly where you should visit!

All you have to do is just letting me know where your crafty passion is heading and what you want to buy in advance. Then I conjure up a perfect plan for your craft shop hopping. I will be your personal tour guide and interpreter to help your shopping.

Since this is a personalized tour, participants should be a small group of friends or family members with common interests. The tour will be the personal one only for you. Naturally, the number of participants is limited. One thing to note, I may not be able to meet your request since some of the craft shops have the regular day off. Please feel free to contact me before booking if you have any concerns.

Hi, I'm Kazue. I have always been crafty, even as a kid, and still am as a mother of two. I do sewing, knitting, embroidering, DIY etc. Right now I am crazy about doing SASHIKO(Japanese folk embroidery) and hosting SASHIKO workshops in Kyoto.

If you are a crafty person like me, you may already know that Japan is the best place to buy various fabric! And Kyoto is one of the cities worth visiting as of various craft shops (from big modern ones to small traditional ones) within a stone's throw. I'm gonna take you to the deep, local craft stores in the ancient labylinth built almost 1,400 years ago.

Her skal du være

After meeting around Shijyo Kawaramachi area, we'll start hopping craft stores according to the special tour plan for you. Just let me know what is your interest about beforehand for the time efficient tour. Due to the monolingual society, I know the difficulty to find the particular materials or supplies in Japan. I also know that most of the shop clerks of the small shops in Japan can not deal with English. Don't worry. I will help you.

The craft tour with Kazue was personalised and as a result I was able to buy specialised sewing items and fabrics I can’t buy at home. Kazue was a gentle host and explained aspects of Japanese culture as well as craft.

The needle shop is a must for everyone. One of the reasons I went to Kyoto, was because I love learning about Japanese crafts. And along with that I needed supplies. I could not have gotten them without Kazue-san's help. We went to interesting stores like a Needle shop and Sou-Sou fabrics. But she also customized the tour so went with me to specialized stores for Urushi Laquer and Shibori Dyeing. Many of the proprietors didn't speak English and Kazue helped translating. I got most of what I needed. Kazue-san wasn't particularly familiar with Urushi lacquer but she did her research and found places for me to go to. I would take this tour over and over again. She showed me a photo of all the places she has connections to in the area and I was blown away but the shear number. Kazue is an excellent source to find what you need.

Kazue’s tour was delightful. She specially designed the shops that we visit based on our crafting needs. She was kind and knowledgeable. She took pictures during our trip and also sent us the link to the route we walked in case we wanted to go back to any of the shops. I would highly recommend her tour.

Kazue was a spectacular guide. I had a list of craft-related items that I wanted to buy and had no idea where to even begin. I was so excited to find this tour and it was worth every penny and more! Kazue is an artisan herself and cares deeply about craft. She knows the little shops that most tourists would not know to look for and her ability to translate opened up a lot more opportunities to find specific items or learn about their history. As we conversed, she found out that I was interested in another type of craft and offered to swap out one of our planned stops for a shop selling that material. I appreciated her flexibility and the conversation that led to that detour. She’s just a really lovely person and I’ll definitely look her up again if I return to Kyoto. You will not regret booking this tour!

Really great way to know better about the culture of Kyoto in regards to handcraft. Kazue goes the extra mile and tailors to your needs, so be ready to share with her what you are looking for. After the tour I felt much more confident to access Japanese craft shops and was set up for my own browsing. Huge thanks to Kazue!

First time doing embroidery, I succeeded in making a beautiful sashiko embroidery piece. Creative space with an awesome teacher, Kazue, everything was great. Thanks for a memorable experience.
