Michiko’s profession is ceramic art and Toshiko’s is remaking products from kimono textile. In 2009, they were having independent craft work corners at some famous hotel of Nara and made friends. Since then these two adventurous ladies’ unique experience planning of classes started! In 2010, they moved to Naramachi, the old historic town of Nara, and opened Handicraft work class “Yuyukobo”. Michiko and Toshiko kept on hitting upon many crafting ideas, which are catchy and well accepted even to visitors from abroad.

Her skal du være

The class is situated in "Naramachi", the historic area within the ancient precinct of Gangoji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Gangoji was the first Buddhist temple in Japan, but most of the buildings were destroyed in a big fire in 1451. After that, people began to build houses in this area and it became a town of merchants.
Why not enjoy even a short promenade and shopping around this historic area after or before the class?

My (9yo) daughter and I really enjoyed our time with Michiko and Toshiko. They were friendly and helpful. The course was interesting and very achievable. It was a great introduction to fabric dying and a wonderful cultural experience working with such knowledgeable crafts people. I would recommend this course to anybody in doing something creative and different. It is good for families too.

This was such a wonderful experience. Despite the language barrier, communication with Michiko and Toshiko wasn’t a problem! They cared a lot about us learning the dye process and giving us the time to dye at our own pace. We chose a more challenging pattern but Michiko and Toshiko were very patient. Their amazing and upbeat attitude left me in high spirits long after the class was over!

Michiko and Toshiko were super welcoming and even though we didn’t speak Japanese, they both worked actively to help us out. Not only using a translation app, but having set information already printed in English. We wished we could have attended more classes, it was so much fun. Lots of laughs were shared and it was a wonderful experience. Would recommend it to anyone!
