Det skal I lave

Washington, DC is the center of American government and politics – and this tour will let you experience all the political action and participate in the debate! Your tour begins at the heart of the city, the U.S. Capitol Building. Here, you’ll discover the origins of the city, the inner workings of the American government, and some incredible stories about U.S. politics as you stand right in front of the building that started it all. Discuss the development of the city as you gaze upon the Capitol, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress.

Next, we’ll wander up one of the most historic streets in the city while engaging in a lively political discussion and debate. Opinions welcome, but keep it friendly!

Along the way we’ll pass and discuss some of the most historic places of Capitol Hill, including the Eastern Market, the Old Navy Hospital, and the Marine Corps Barracks. Find out where all the movers and shakers meet outside the office, and uncover the changes the neighborhood and city have undergone. You’ll be fascinated by how you can see the origins of the city in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Finally, we’ll check out the oldest commercial district in the city, Barrack’s Row. There, your local guide will point out some of the best spots to eat, drink, and socialize in the city, before ending your tour at one of our favorite cafes, bars, or restaurants on the Row.

This tour is not just about explaining the political system, it’s truly about understanding American society, its history and broadening your perspective on today’s happenings. The most wonderful part about it is the discussions. I really felt as if I didn’t just take away some fun facts (although that’s also the case!) but was able to contextualize modern day politics with all its contradictions.

Montie is a life-long resident of DC and very passionate about politics and history. We met across the street from the Library of Congress, where we went first. It was so much more than I expected, a stunningly beautiful building, with many historical artifacts, all of which Montie had stories and could answer any question about. He also had a long personal history there, having used it as a place to study in high school. Since this was my first time in DC, it was great to be shown around by someone who'd been immersed in its culture and knew its history so well. We proceeded to walk around the neighborhood, as he told me lots of stories about landmarks we passed, then ended up at a local pub for a beer. If you want to get the inside scoop on the city's history from a very knowledgable local, he's your guy!

This tour is a treasure. You get to learn about the Capitol Hill neighborhood's inside information. Our tour guide is a native, so brings the local vibe to the presentation...not like a history teacher. It was great!

Walking through the neighborhood was interesting and beautiful. I’d skip Sunday since all the buildings are closed. The Eastern market was a nice escape from the rain. The pub was a great way to talk to other people in the tour. Many international guests
