Det skal I lave
Learn one of the oldest crafts known to mankind! Step into a magical studio and get an insight on the history of the leather trade in London. Craft your very own leather goods using the same premium leather, tools and techniques used in my work. Whether you are leather curious or a serial hobbyist - this workshop will make a leather lover out of you! I start by sharing my journey to the craft followed by a talk on the history of leather and tanning and current views on sustainability, ethics and welfare. You will have a choice of items you can select from (please see photos). These have been cleverly designed with a modern minimal aesthetic and are suitable for all abilities, ages and genders. You will leave with professionally finished leather goods as made by you - the ultimate souvenir to remember your trip to London! You will work on the chosen project(s) with individual attention given as required throughout the class and we will finish by packaging item to take home or to give as a gift (if required). During this workshop you will learn: - Current topics on sustainability, slow fashion, ethics, leather production and tanning history and welfare - Working with professional patterns and marking - Cutting leather accurately - Punching holes (guests love hammering!) - Shaping leather - Use a professional heated tool - Burnishing leather - Using brass fittings
Working as a solicitor, I dreamed of a life free of commuting, offices, suits and computers. I travelled the world to learn from the best craftspeople and left my career to become a leather craftsman. I combine traditions from masters of English heritage with the elegance and finesse of fabled European brands to give you a unique take on the craft. My work is an eclectic alliance of colours and textures. I have an international client list for my bespoke work and private lessons and I teach leather working to students at a secondary school to inspire and keep the craft alive. My work has won awards, has been exhibited at the Walsall Leather Museum in England and I've taught leatherworking to John Malkovich.
