Det skal I lave

The mountain Tromsdalstinden is the highest mountain that can be seen from Tromsø. At 1238m hight, the view walking up there and from the peak is fantastic. The total length of the hike is about 18km, and is both challenging and rewarding.

This is a whole day trip lasting from 8-12 hours depending on the group and the weather. The terrain is steep, consisting of footpaths and rocky terrain. There can be snow in this area the whole year, but it is normally snow free by the end of July. The first 4km is relatively flat.

We start in the bottom part of Tromsdalen and walk up an old gravel road used back in the days. Tromsdalen has a lot of sami history, and the Tromsdalstinden mountain is considered a holy mountain named Sálašoaivi in sami.

After passing the old farm Dalheim we continue walking more or less upwards the next 5-6km. We pass forests and rivers before we get over the tree line where we start enjoying the view. After about 1km in easy terrain we start climbing towards the peak - relatively steep and rocky, but without climbing gear. On the way up there are 200-300m high cliffs where it is possible to challenge your vertigo if you want to.

The peak is reached after about 4 hours walking and has a 360 degree view of the are around Tromsø, and the Lyngen alps.

We walk down a slightly different path that is nicer for the knees, but end up where we start

I am a native Norwegian from Tromso that is now working as an expedition leader along the Norwegian coast with Hurtigruten. I have a formal guiding education from the north of Norway and Svalbard and have spent a lot of my spare time outdoors with the kids and by myself.

Over the last 10 years, I have been doing nature- and northern lights photography, and is now teaching my guests how to get the most out of their camera gear. When not traveling the coast I am also running a small guiding company focusing on slow adventure excursions with small groups in the Tromso area - both by car with longer stops and hiking if the weather permits it. With roughly 30 years of experience in the arctic, I give guests experiences in nature they are not likely to forget.

Her skal du være

We will visit the site of the old farm Dalheim before we start climbing towards the peak. On our way up we will hear stories about the mining in the valley, the Tromsø Olympic games application and how the sami population used the valley back in the days. As we get to the peak there are several high mountains towards the Lyngen alps that are pointed out for you, along with landmark in Tromsø that we see from the peak.

Reidar is such an incredible host, no doubt about it. We were unable to go hiking to Tromdalstinden due to weather conditions. However, Reidar proposed another hiking options and we decided to go to blåisvannet. Wise decision I must say. The landscape is totally amazing. As we walked between spactacular mountains, Reidar explained to me some interesting facts about the area, like the type of vegetation, why the iceberg on top of the lake has shrank over the years, the reason why the deep blue color of the lake, among other things. At the lake, we had a tasty lunch prepared by Reidar. (The bread was baked by him! ). After taking some pictures, we headed back to the starting point. I would definetely recommend Reidar as a guide. He is a really nice person with good experience in outdoor activities in the area. Thank you Reidar for this unforgettable experience ! Blåisvannet is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
