Det skal I lave

We will venture into a thick west coast rainforest, and hike to a tributary of the Cowichan River. Along the way I will help you differentiate between several micro-habitats showcased on this trail, and we will stop to explore some special features of temperate rainforest ecology, where I will unlock the secrets of our region's species interactions at work. A picnic snack of refreshments made right in the Cowichan Valley will be provided. After some nourishment I will lead you to the end of the loop where you can get back to enjoying everything the beautiful Cowichan Valley has to offer.

Holly

I am a long-time nature lover and learner. My childhood love of nature led me to volunteer in the Belizean rainforest as a young adult. There I gained experience including campsite building and editing nature trail guides. That prompted me to study Environmental Science in university, where I learned the value of ecosystems beyond economics. I have since gained work and volunteer experience in fisheries, guiding nature walks, water health research, and ecosystem restoration. Meanwhile, for my entire life, I have seized every opportunity to adventure in nature. I am an experienced British Columbia camper, hiker, paddler, rock climber and surfer. My academic and recreational experiences combined make me an expert on BC's Coastal Outdoor Lifestyle.

Flere tips

Westcoast weather is unpredictable in all seasons. Dress for the best and pack layers for the worst. Our hikes will be accompanied by my lovable, human-loving dog, Shiva, unless you request that she stay home. I am certified in first aid and will carry a kit on every hike.
