Det skal I lave

During this 3 hour walking tour we will explore the historical, geographical and cultural landscape of Santiago center through an alternative lens of the working class, the underprivileged, the immigrants, the bohemians and the hipsters.

We will meet on the stairs at the entrance of Santa Lucia hill where we will discuss its history before moving on to the next stop. (The hill itself is not part of our tour). We will then walk to Plaza de Armas, stopping as I tell you the story of one of the most important streets in the center, explain the history behind the infamous cafes, and mention Chile's most fascinating cultural artifacts.

After Plaza de Armas we will start our journey across the river, to the "other" side of the city. Here I will show you a very popular working class restaurant, an important church with a mysterious saint, and the Santiago's oldest immigrant neighborhood.

Finally, we will walk down a graffiti adorned street to get to our final stop in front of one of the newest hipster bar/restaurant complexes in town.

Hi, I'm Kat, and beautiful Santiago is my chosen home.

I'm lucky to have been able to travel extensively due to my own initiative as well as my past work as a flight attendant. In all my travels I have sought to get a deeper understanding of my surroundings. I believe that one of the best ways to do so is by exploring, not only the major sites, but also the alternative routes...the sometimes-not-so-picture-perfect underbellies that provide the most invaluable insight into the heart and soul of a city.

As a culture and travel writer for Chile Today, an independent English language newspaper, I have learned a lot about Santiago, and as a long-time teacher I am passionate about sharing this information with visitors who may otherwise overlook some of the most fascinating parts of the city center.

Don't miss out - come walk with me!

On this tour you will visit not only the well-known parts of Santiago center, but also the parts that tourists (and even some locals) rarely venture into. We will start at Santa Lucia Hill and make our way to Plaza de Armas before crossing the Mapocho river into Recoleta. At every stop you will learn interesting anecdotes and historical facts that will help you understand Santiago.

Kateryna showed us Santiago through foreigners’ eyes, both as being an expat (which makes her notice different things than Chileans), and from the viewpoint of immigrants (both contemporary and historical). She has fast knowledge of the city and is fun to be around with. For everyone who is interested in the political situation of Santiago, as well as its funfacts, Kateryna is your go to guide.

Kateryna is very fluent in English and has interesting stories about the history and present of the city. I liked her tour very much, but maybe just a tiny bit too long... Close to perfect!

This tour is fantastic. You’ll see the main historical areas of Santiago plus the various cultural neighborhoods that really give you a great overview of the city and its people. Kateryna is a great storyteller in addition to being great to chat with. Our family of 4 loved it.

Kateryna is an absolutely wonderful tour guide, and really painted us a well rounded picture of the current state of Santiago socially and politically - all while walking us through the city. If you want to get a better understanding of Santiago from a local knowledgable expat’s perspective, this is the tour for you :)

My partner and I had a great time on the tour. We learned a lot about Chile and its recent history. It was interesting hearing a foreigner's view of Santiago and the people of Chile. Definitely recommended!
