Det skal I lave
This workshop belongs to a package of 2 independent parts programmed in two days: Batik Technique (14.09) and Natural Dyeing (15.09). You can book both if interested! BATIK TECHNIQUE 14.09 (10am-2pm) You will have unique occasion to experience this very old and exotic technique by yourself. We will start with an introduction about Batik - I will tell you a bit about Batik history and show you the traditional tools and true examples of Indonesian Batik. Afterwards you will start to draw (with a pencil) over the fabric or paper the image or pattern you want to have on your textile. Don't worry, I will provide you some traditional patterns that you can copy in case you think it can be difficult :) You will subsequently start applying hot wax over the fabric, in order to do this we will use traditional batik tools: Canting (very precise tool), Copper and Wooden Stamps. Finally we will dye the fabric and remove the wax by boiling the textiles: the wax painted areas will remain uncolored, while the rest will be covered by the dye. After the boiling process your batik will be done and you can take it home! Note: in this workshop we will use fast artificial colors (special made for batik technique). If you prefer to dye your textiles with natural colors book the second part of the workshop, that will take place day after (15.09). You can book it on my profile.
Hi! I am Marta, a painter and textile lover. I started working with Batik while I was studying painting at University of Arts in Poznań. I went few times to Indonesia to extend my knowledge, and I spent long periods on Java Island, considered the Batik heart. On Java I had the chance to study and experience straight from the local people who work with this technique from ages, passing its experience through generations. Now, I would like to share it with others to keep alive the beautiful tradition of batik technique.
