Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Cuenca exploration in a photo session
This is what my city needs to offer. A walking tour where you are given with a brief historical description, including the art and what you need to know about its people. We will also see some of the most important landmarks and you will know where to shop for Panama hats, handcrafts, clothes and, finally, where to eat and or have a good coffee. Cuenca has it all! I am also an enthusiast photographer, I am always learning the new possibilities we get with the technology evolution and I enjoy to have a collection of unique photos I take when I travel. A few years ago, I worked for several months with a photographer from "The Hartford Current", a newspaper from Connecticut, USA. He taught me many things and, he told me that after having been to more than 100 countries, he sees that the light of Cuenca, because of its location, is unique, and it just makes photos look better. After he told me that, I have noticed how it is really special. Cuenca has a unique weather, and the light of the sun makes things and people photogenic. There are also many things going on and beautiful landmarks that help to get a great picture: a picture that tells you a story without words.

  • The real taste of Cuenca
Food is definitely one of the most important parts of every culture. That being said, we'll explore the local markets, try some authentic street food & drinks, and talk about the traditional preparations while mingling with the locals. Get ready to discover genuine places where the real Cuencanos hang out! This experience will involve all your senses, especially the sense of taste. We'll make our way through several different food markets, stopping at the carefully selected stalls for samples, before we head to a bakery (well kept local secret) to eat the best empanada in the city with a delicious “morocho” a drink made of corn and cinnamon. Then, we will go to a local market to try several samples of local dishes, hornado (pork), with mote or potatoes (there are some vegetarian options as well). In our walk, we’ll stop at a stall to try the fantastic and unique dry ice cream that we all Cuencanos love. Don't expect anything fancy or elegant, just good hearty food and rustic ambiance. We'll then walk to a historic bar where you'll have an opportunity to enjoy the famous "canelazo" cocktail in an authentic atmosphere. Both the tour and the tastings are included in the price. I'll also provide my personal recommendations, to help you make the most out of your stay in Cuenca. Other things to note If you don’t drink alcohol, there will be many nonalcoholic options as well. There are plenty of Vegetarian foods available as well.

  • The Ecuadorian Machu Picchu - Ingapirca
We will start our adventure early in the morning, at 9 o'clock, to get to the place at the first hours of the day for best lights and to avoid the crowds. We will meet at our encounter point downtown Cuenca, and we will head north towards the city of Azogues and then to the town of El Tambo. We will see great places on the way, including the Cojitambo hill. This journey will take about one hour and a half. Once we get to Ingapirca, we will visit the museum of the site with spectacular pieces of the archaeological projects performed in the area. Then, we will enter the area where the main temple is, the Castle. This area is the Ecuadorian Machu Picchu, with similar views in a shorter scale. We will walk along the area and get to the top of the Castle for great photos. After that, we will walk to the Inca face, a natural formation in a mountain nearby. Then, we will go to a local restaurant which is a truly secret gem. It has great coffee, and delicious typical Ecuadorian food with spectacular views of Ingapirca. Finally, we will return to Cuenca while we talk about this wonderful experience.
